- Can’t wait to watch this! love me some Secrets of the Dead www.pbs.org/wnet/secrets...
- Immediately suspicious
- I think I kinda finished the section on the recirculation of heteronormativity in song references in conversation for my book 😭
- remembering how my elementary school PE teacher would play this as he ran laps with us around the gym, and especially how he would half heartedly launch himself into the air and do a little spin on every “hey!” youtu.be/wchDg8EoHEE?...
- god the Chomsky stuff just keeps getting worse doesn’t it
- Oo bonus class that I just remembered when a friend posted about having just read Watchmen for the first time: Graphic Novel
- Never mind the jobs you had, tell me five classes you took in college: 1. Writing Systems of the World 2. Women in Modernism 3. Our Lady of Guadalupe 4. Environmental Issues in Latin American Literature 5. Anarchism & Geography
- I can’t just keep telling my aunt every time she sends me an AI generated video
- I’m pleased to be experimenting in my immigrant defense work with a code name that is an intertextual reference (just the feminine version) of the code name my grandfather used in the Polish underground resistance of Soviet occupation following WW2 (very different contexts I know)
- I wonder if some day work by painters like Picasso, Dali and Gauguin just won’t be in museums anymore (they were all disgusting)
- look I’m sorry but Frankenstein cannot win best film. It can win something else but not that one. thank you Oscar committee
- Being a scholar of intertextuality is especially challenging when I show my mom what I think is a cool intertextual reference in the art/film world, and she responds “it’s a rip off! No originality!”
- So in case people don’t know yet, ICE officially can use those ring cameras to assist in their operations, and there is a large boycott of Target, Home Depot, Enterprise, Delta, and Hilton due to their collaborations with ICE. More info on the boycotts here: docs.google.com/document/d/1...
- so I help run the social media accounts for our local immigrant defense network, and lately we’ve been getting a lot more interesting engagement on our posts—basically people questioning our tactics & events that we promote. I guess cuz this is such a hot news topic rn & everyone is freaking out.

Feel free to share/repurpose or just check out the links for your own reference. It won't stop some of them, but I want students to know why. docs.google.com/document/d/1...
- if…consummated?
- Trump: "Based upon a very productive meeting I had with Mark Rutte, we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region. This solution, if consummated, will be a great one... Based upon this understanding, I will not be imposing the Tariffs"

- Reposted by Sylvia Sierra 🏔️The program for GURT 2026 ("Futuring Linguistics") is live! Gonna be a good one docs.google.com/document/d/1...
- And isn’t it ironic. Yeah I really do think www.cbsnews.com/news/chongly...
- I stg this timeline is so disorienting (and in part that’s by design)
- Reposted by Sylvia Sierra 🏔️Whatever my uni declares, I am not going to engage with AI. I am not going to use AI or teach students to use it. I am going to continue to explain to students why it is harmful. Absolutely absurd to allow this anti-intellectual, environmentally devastating technology into the university at all.
- I just tried to watch like 2 minutes of Emily in Paris and I don’t think I can do it. The opening scene is literally the “girl who is going to be ok” trope. I guess I’m going back to Call the Midwife even though I hate birth scenes

- I knew I was in for a treat when I saw the opening message from my mother in law
- polish or perish 💅
- this is a nice comment from my fall course student evaluations. my class is really not that hard I don't think but I guess it's all relative 🤷♀️
- Anyone have any good Italian Netflix shows to recommend (specifically I’m trying to learn some basic conversational Italian)?
- Reposted by Sylvia Sierra 🏔️Hey, did you know that Greek lost the phoneme /h/ because of secularism? You see, /h/ intrinsically symbolises the Creator. And hydrogen. This journal is published by @springernature.com , and is hosted by @nature.com. How did this incoherent nonsense make it into print?
- WTF?! 🫣 Is this a joke? www.nature.com/articles/s41... A religious quote, "primitive languages", and nonsense everywhere. Is Nature Humanities and Social Sciences Communications a scam journal?
- Reposted by Sylvia Sierra 🏔️This is awesome! I have been curating a list of #linguistics journals, with information on their publishing model (and also on whether they admit submissions created by LaTeX, a high-quality, professional Open Source way to produce scientific documents). uni-duesseldorf.sciebo.de/s/BvRY0u3rDY...
- In the past decade or two, predatory publishers have built a parallel universe of publication opportunities preying on the least privileged & most vulnerable of our colleagues I got my hands on what passes for peer review at one such journal ideophone.org/on-plagiaris...

- one of friends’ kids recently said her favorite colors were: purple, rainbow, and golden 💜🌈 💛
- in the process of returning books I bought with internal grant money so I can instead use that money to fund travel to a conference 🙄

- omg I'm sitting in the cadiologist's office waiting room and just opened my laptop, and what blasts out from my speakers to this poor room full of heart patients but "MOOOOO!" from Doja Cat's "MOOO!" that I was listening to "for my research" earlier 😭
- Thought of a new response for the “how many languages do you speak” question that every linguists gets. I’ll try: “I speak two languages, how about you?”
- watching Doja Cat's "Mooo!" music video with my chin perched on my fist like this is really some kind of intellectual object of inquiry is a little too much, even for me www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXnJ...
- I have the 1980s/90s evolution of American English to thank for my use of “they like totally cut out his vocals” in a text message
- academics, love ya and all, but on the topic of pre-conferences: WHY
- so interesting looking thru physical copies of other academic books as I'm starting to write another one, just to see how people do it so differently. Some have really short chapters, some justify all their shortcomings right away, some books on singing in talk have music notation, others don't
