- The sheer pervasiveness of dissonance in Bach's music is often overlooked. Here's the introduction to his Cantata No. 54, a work in which the faithful are urged to resist sin. In just10 bars of music, there are 103(!!!) dissonances. And I'm not even counting passing tones.
