- Severance fans.... hear me out. 🧵Apr 1, 2025 18:53
- My colleague pointed out that ORTBO (The Outdoor Retreat and Team Building Occurrence) is an anagram for ROBOT. Okay. Where does the word "robot" originate?
- The word "robot" first originated in the 1920s, from the Czech word robota which means ‘forced labor’. The term was coined in K. Čapek's play R.U.R. ‘Rossum's Universal Robots’
- Let’s look into this play, shall we? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R.U.R.
- The play’s synopsis:
- "The robots described in Čapek's play are not robots in the popularly understood sense of an automaton. They are not mechanical devices, but rather artificial biological organisms that may be mistaken for humans."
- And who might be one of the main characters? Helena Glory, "the daughter of the president of a major industrial power"
- Oh, and by the way, Helena has a twin experimental robotess also named Helena.
- If the plot of "RUR" has any bearing on Season 3 of Severance, things are not looking good for the future of the humanity!
- Please enjoy all of the uncanny parallels on this Wikipedia page equally: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R.U.R.
