Diocese of Sheffield
Shining as #LightsforChrist across South Yorkshire & the East Riding. The Church of England, serving our communities.
- Do you have a love of meeting people in your community and sharing the Good News of Jesus in word and action? If that is the case God might be calling you to be a Lay Parish Evangelist – someone who loves telling people about Jesus and showing his love. youtube.com/shorts/fSnKh...
- Each year we run a course called Faith Empowered which teaches you and gives you confidence to share your faith. As part of the course we discern with you on whether you are called to be a Lay Parish Evangelist. For more information, contact: John.hibberd@sheffield.anglican.org
- 'In ministry it is a good idea to periodically step back and invite the Holy Spirit to examine your intentions and motivations. To prayerfully ask the question – why am I doing this? Is it because I feel a sense of call? Is it out of duty?'
- This week's Barnabas Blog has been written by Beth Burras, Lead Lay Ministry Enabler 👇 www.sheffield.anglican.org/whats-driving-you-values-and-motivations/
- The Ministry Experience Scheme is a wonderful opportunity for young adults from 18-29 to explore where God is leading them today and into the future. Those on the scheme live in shared accommodation, attend a church placement three-four days a week, and receive theological teaching.
- We try to tailor the year to each participant’s church tradition, giving them opportunities to grow in chosen areas of ministry. A year of discipleship, discernment of calling, and a chance to receive theological teaching, with the essential costs and accommodation covered.
- If you are interested or know someone who would benefit from doing a year like this this September 2026, please do get in contact: hannah.grist@sheffield.anglican.org
- ‘I just burst into tears – which is not like me at all – and said, “I’ve been running away from God for too long”. I started exploring ordination after that’. Revd Kath Lonsborough, Assistant Curate at St Paul’s Wordsworth Avenue, joins Paul and Ben on the podcast. ➡️ sheffdio.org/podcast
- Kath discusses: ✝️ How being confirmed at 11 helped shape her faith in adulthood ✝️ Her sense of social justice from a young age ✝️ Feeling called to serve at the Parsons Cross foodbank ✝️ Her first calling to ordination in 2007 and initially rejecting it ✝️ Getting her black belt in martial arts
