- Reposted by Shannon PalusWhatever you think of the Washington Post at this moment, here's a chance to support the dedicated, hard-working journalists who were just laid off. If you have the means, your donation is most welcome. If you don't, a kind thought and maybe spreading the word to others is support enough 💙

- Reposted by Shannon PalusA few months ago, ICE hired me I didn't sign and submit any paperwork. I almost certainly failed the drug test. I'm real outspoken about my opposition to the Trump administration, and I am extremely googlable And yet, there it was, in plain English. "Welcome to ICE!" My latest for Slate

- hm I hate to say it but it's actually very helpful when writers include the LinkedIn in their email signature these days. very easy way to help me tell that you are a human not a bot and a journalist/freelance writer not a comms person.

- I managed to basically remove instagram from my phone for months on end in 2025 and … my brain is so much more interesting now. I read more! I like how I look! It’s incredible.
- Reposted by Shannon PalusGenerative AI is for losers. It’s so embarrassing to watch people debase real artists, the environment, and themselves for a sloppy, rip-off of a party trick.

- I'm back at Slate next week after mat leave, and will be looking at pitches again! Particularly interested in health and science opinion and analysis, and/or with a first person angle, as well as features (2,500+ words, deeply reported) that turn a big idea on its head. shannon.palus@slate.com
- Here's a good example of a feature that worked well! slate.com/technology/2...
- I keep trying to think of something smart to say/think/feel about the CDC autism vaccines stuff but it’s just so stupid and so scary
- human desire is wild, and if you temporarily blow up your career for an elderly man who wants to take vaccines from babies, you owe the reader a straightforward account of that and *some* kind of introspection—not whatever that excerpt was
- one weird trick! www.nytimes.com/2025/11/11/t...
- the ByHeart formula recall makes me physically ill to think about, and also i hope that it doesn't scare anyone away from formula generally ... formula is a miracle!
- i've been looking forward to this piece since I saw it on the schedule while lurking on work Slack. Michelle Obama is "a self-improvement icon and lifestyle influencer with little interest in the state of our union" writes @c-cauterucci.bsky.social slate.com/life/2025/11...
- Science News is preparing to strike ✊
- it's nyc marathon weekend—a highly overrated race, if you ask me. slate.com/life/2024/11...
- I have a baby who is a bad sleeper and let me tell you the answer is not anything you can buy or do or read to MAKE a very young baby a better sleeper. It is two parents on leave (or two full time caregivers in whatever arrangement). That is it.
- my husband is a husband who insists on keeping a DVD collection … now our internet is out and we are both on parental leave, so, he wins this round

- yes THANK YOU
- having a newborn is extremely similar in my experience to running an ultramarathon, except instead of “you‘re doing doing WHAT, you super human person!” you get “and you will sign up for this a second time, yes?”
