I think that's a symptom of internet discourse where folks don't delve into the nuance of their opinions on either side.
"This wasn't exactly the same therefore it sucks" is different from "It was alright but I would've preferred something more like the old game"
And because both opinions could be conveyed with "I wish it was like the old game" you have folks reading what they want out of it because the source of your reasoning is absent, so they address the version of the opinion they think you have.

Sketching out even a stick figure reference I find helps convey an idea pretty well. Redlining is also very useful. "No no, when I said bigger, I meant *this* big" (red circles that take up the entire page)

Even if you faked it, you certainly made it, 'cause I think your stuff is pretty legit. Even artists didn't know what they were doing at first until someone figured things out then told someone else.
