- Moving more electricity use off-peak could save the country up to $3 billion and transform the energy system in the process. The study found New Zealand could, through fully exploiting modern technologies, lower electricity use at the busiest times by up to 25%. www.eeca.govt.nz/about/news-a...
- Here in California we have time-of-use rates for electricity. Now, a simple investment in rooftop solar & a residential battery can protect ratepayers from economic exploitation. Virtual Power Plants (VPP) technology already exists & will further minimize power scarcity. #ElectrifyEverythingFeb 1, 2026 15:41
- We have that option too. We need more investment (incentives) in solar/battery tho.
- The problem here is that while investor-owned-utilities are happy w/ increased electrification, they have no monetary incentive to increase system efficiency that would lower rates. All efficiency efforts are limited to individual behind the meter tweaks rather than system (grid) wide improvements.
- Sounds like our rigged system.
- Utilities owned by investors as for-profit corporations largely fail to operate in service to the public. The system isn’t rigged. It’s doing exactly what it was designed to do … make the rich richer. 45yrs of trickle-down economics.
