- Not exactly the problem you are describing but FEIS could be interesting here? Depending on what your treatment is doi.org/10.1177/0049...
- Thanks for your causal inference readings suggestions! Next Q: what's a paper that (mostly) convinced you of causal relationships *without* an exogenous shock? My students seek examples of good work when using an IV or RD or something isn't an option. (Again, I appreciate RTs to crowd source.)
- I think this figure is very convincing in terms of causality. From this paper: doi.org/10.1073/pnas...

- Oh come on - I'm willing to believe the overlap section of the Venn diagram of "watched Buffy" and "following what Larry Summers said in his emails to Epstein" isn't huge, but I feel it's gotta be over represented in my social network.
- finding out what "Buffy" is right now 😅
- I'm facilitating a causal inference reading group next semester for Sociology PhD students. (I will also be learning!) If there are (1) pedagogical articles or (2) empirical examples in soc that you ❤️, will you share in the comments? [And please RT to help me crowd-source!]

- Is childhood exposure to local wealth inequality associated with upward income mobility achieved in adulthood? Yes! Check out my new paper, just published in @natureportfolio.nature.com here: doi.org/10.1038/s414... #EconSky #Sociology #Demography

View full threadOne pathway through which childhood exposure to local wealth inequality might influence upward mobility of low-income kids is through its association with educational outcomes.
- Combining wealth estimates from geowealth-us and mobility data from opportunity insights, I demonstrate a negative association between childhood exposure to wealth inequality and upward income mobility outcomes later in life.
- Simulation exercises suggest that childhood exposure to local wealth inequality is more central to upward mobility than exposure to local income inequality itself.

- We use long-running panel data (PSID) and FEIS models and find a 4% reduction in women's work hours in our most conservative estimation. We show that payroll tax contribution limits (FICA cap) almost exclusively boost net incomes of men and might help explain gender disparities at the top.

- Thrilled to announce that I am joining UNC-Chapel Hill this fall as Assistant Professor of Public Policy! Many thanks to @stone-lis.bsky.social and everyone who helped me get there.
- Quick look at the UK inheritance tax discussion using the wealthproject.gc.cuny.edu/EIG/ In 2021, the UK raised 0,78% of total tax revenue from inheritance and gifts vs 1,65% in France (in the 1960s, the UK collected over 2,66%!). The UK annually collects about $12 Billion less than France. #EconSky
