The SAS Collective
A group of committed Specialist, Associate Specialist and Specialty (SAS) doctors, working to improve the careers and retention of doctors in the UK | #SASsix | #SASsky | #SASbyChoice | #SASdocsRock
- In response to today's announcement of support for the #SASsix campaign by @fmlm-uk.bsky.social, SAS Collective member @robjimfleming.bsky.social wrote a blog for our website. "The days of the 'invisible' SAS doctor are over." Read more here: www.sascollective.com/leadershipno...
- We are absolutely delighted that Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management @fmlm-uk.bsky.social have decided to support our #SASsix campaign! Thanks, folks. We really appreciate this!
- FMLM is proud to support the #SASsix campaign, championing leadership equity for SAS doctors across the NHS. SAS doctors are essential, and their leadership potential must be recognised. We’re committed to empowering them to lead, manage and thrive.
- In a post on LinkedIn earlier, Prof Rich Withnall, @fmlm-uk.bsky.social CEO, said: “I am delighted that FMLM has joined a growing coalition of influential healthcare organisations committed to meaningful reform for SAS and locally‑employed doctors." #SASsix
- Leicester Partnership NHS Trust become the twelfth Trust we have been able to add to this slide, after their pledge today to use the SAS six in their approach to their workforce. Could your Trust be next? Get in touch! www.leicspart.nhs.uk/news/our-sas...
- We are absolutely thrilled that Leicester Partnership NHS Trust have chosen to join our collection of employers seeking to support their SAS and locally-employed workforce. The #SASsix is a roadmap for change, and we love to see it used. Bravo! www.leicspart.nhs.uk/news/our-sas...
- Thanks to all our new followers! If you want to read a little more about the SAS six campaign, you can do so in a few places. We wrote a blog for @nhsemployers.bsky.social here: www.nhsemployers.org/articles/sup... There is also some information on our website: www.sascollective.com/sassix
- In recent months many new organisations have decided to support or endorse the #SASsix campaign. Most recent was @bashhuk.bsky.social, who did so yesterday. Like us, these organisations believe that supporting every doctor to achieve their potential is right for the workforce. Could you be next?
- We are delighted that @bashhuk.bsky.social have decided to support our #SASsix campaign! A lot of sexual health care is delivered by SAS doctors. Signposting a career for these doctors to achieve their potential is a vital part of supporting this workforce. We look forward to working with you!
- BASHH is proud to endorse the @sascollective.com's campaign, championing career progression, equity of opportunity, and support for SAS doctors around the UK through six essential 'asks'. To view our statement of support, visit our website: bit.ly/3NFc773
- The @rcphysicians.bsky.social have been important allies to the #SASsix campaign. We agree entirely with President Mumtaz Patel in her rapid response to this weeks @bmj.com article. Bravo!
- ‘Once a doctor has been employed in the same specialty by the same trust for more than two years, they should be moved to a nationally negotiated SAS contract.’ 👉 Read our rapid response to a @bmj.com investigation revealing thousands of LEDs are trapped in insecure contracts: ow.ly/m9sm50XwQot
- 1/ The medical workforce and the #SASsix, a Saturday morning thread... The eagle-eyed among you may have spotted two related publications relating to workforce this week. Taken together, they paint a stark picture of the current medical workforce.
- 2/ The new General Medical Council workforce report once again illustrates that the most rapidly rising cohort in the medical workforce are locally-employed doctors. This year is also looks at their contract duration, and finds that the majority in this group are on short-term contracts.
- 3/ It also demonstrates that we don't retain these doctors in the workforce. Read more here: www.gmc-uk.org/about/what-w...

- We were pleased to have the opportunity to contribute to this article. We think doctors trapped in long-term local contracts are "hidden SAS". They deserve the national contract for the work done. We hope our campaign helps to make this normal. #SASsix www.bmj.com/content/391/...
- We love it when organisations decide to support our campaign. We can't do anything without the support of our allies. You are vital. Thanks to FFLM for your support. You are brilliant! #SASsix
- Following last week’s FFLM Board meeting, we are delighted to announce that the FFLM has formally endorsed the @sascollective.com and the principles of the #SASsix: tinyurl.com/4e36pkkj
- We are always thrilled when another organisation comes on board and supports our campaign. Thanks to DAUK for your kind words about the campaign, and for raising awareness with your platform. We like you, too! open.substack.com/pub/dauk/p/h... #SASsix
- Thanks again to @medicalprotection.bsky.social for having us at their webinar tonight. We had a great time, met some new folks, made some new friends. It was splendid! #SASsix
- We are taking part in a SAS webinar hosted by @medicalprotection.bsky.social on Thursday. See some of you folks there, hopefully! #SASsix
- Register for the webinar here: medicalprotection-org.zoom.us/webinar/regi...
- Today is day 4 of #SASweek25, focused around equity, diversity and inclusion. We believe SAS issues are undeniably EDI issues, based on both the demographics of our professional group, and how grade itself can introduce prejudices. youtu.be/IN4J9_b47Aw?...
- Today is day 3 of #SASweek25, focused around SAS development AND SAS doctors undertaking extended roles. These things form a big chunk of the #SASsix. We consider it self-evident that a career that is limited, is potential being wasted. We can't have that!
- We are absolutely ecstatic that as part of their #SASweek25 celebrations, the @rcpsych.bsky.social have decided to become the sixth college support the #SASsix campaign. We love it! They have announced this on X, hopefully they will do so here too in due course. Bravo, psychiatry!
- We are absolutely delighted to have the support of @hcsa-com.bsky.social. They were early supporters, and the first organisation to stand up and be counted in the #SASsix campaign. We continue to work with them closely. #SASweek25
- HCSA - the #HospitalDoctorsUnion was the first national organisation to endorse the work of the SAS Collective and the #SASSix campaign. ▶️ Watch this message from HCSA President, Dr Naru Narayanan, celebrating SAS doctors and #SASWeek2025 🎉, and affirming our ongoing support. @sascollective.com
- We are thrilled whenever a new Trust wishes to use the #SASsix in their approach to their medical workforce. Every doctor needs support to progress their career, opportunity to reach their potential, and the right contract for their work. Bravo, NHS West London. Welcome to the family! #SASweek25
- Day 2 of #SASweek25 is focused around the Specialist role. The Specialist contract, for senior, experienced and autonomous colleagues, should be an attainable goal in a SAS career. We made it part of the #SASsix, because opportunity for progression matters a great deal.
- We are absolutely thrilled that the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists has decided to support our #SASsix campaign. RCOG recognises the valuable contributions that SAS and LE doctors bring to the specialty. Bravo! www.rcog.org.uk/news/rcog-su...
- Dr Eman Toeima, RCOG National SAS and LED Lead/Chair, said: “I’m delighted that the RCOG is backing this campaign—the six principles strongly resonate with our ongoing efforts to champion inclusion and elevate the visibility of SAS and LED roles.” #SASsix
- RCOG becomes the fifth medical Royal College to support the #SASsix campaign, alongside our other allies. We remain incredibly grateful to everyone who adds their help to our cause, and their logo to our slide of supporters. We couldn't do what we do without you!
- We are delighted to see the updated @assocanaes.bsky.social SAS Handbook published, including a whole chapter on the #SASsix campaign. The Association have been fantastic allies to our campaign, and we remain very grateful for their ongoing support! anaesthetists.org/Home/Members...
- It is brilliant to see our allies and friends at the HCSA joining us on Blue Sky. We like it here, and we hope they will find the same warm reception on this platform that we did. Give them a follow, and have a read of our recent shared blog. #SASsix
- We're proud to stand alongside The SAS Collective in championing the #SASsix, six key asks to support & empower SAS doctors. Read the blog🔗Supporting Organisations to Support SAS Doctors tinyurl.com/HCSA-blogs 👉Please like, share, comment, follow😊 #HospitalDoctorsUnion #SASsky @sascollective.com
- The Royal College of Ophthalmology today join three other Royal Colleges in backing the #SASsix campaign. We appreciate every organisation that does this. You are brilliant. The SAS six is a roadmap for doctors outside of rotational training to achieve their potential, and this benefits everyone.
- We are absolutely delighted that the Royal College of Ophthalmology have decided to support the #SASsix campaign. Their statement of support today will hopefully help SAS and locally-employed doctors working in ophthalmology to achieve their potential. Fab. www.rcophth.ac.uk/news-views/c...
- Our friends at the RCP run a SAS leadership programme, which we love to promote because initiatives like this could help a lot of SAS doctors to achieve their potential. Every doctor should have the opportunity to progress their career into leadership. #SASsix
- Are you an SAS doctor ready to lead? Our SAS Leadership Programme is here to help you grow, lead and thrive. With expert-led sessions, MBTI insights and networking opportunities. Applications close on 1 July – apply now: ow.ly/hJpR50WaG6l
- Our friends at @rcphysicians.bsky.social would like to see more SAS doctors achieve their leadership potential. We agree! #SASsix Their SAS leadership programme has already supported multiple doctors. Applications for this round close 1st July. Find out more here: www.rcp.ac.uk/events-and-e...
- As the RCP say in their description of the course... "This programme empowers SAS doctors to overcome challenges, seize opportunities, and build a rewarding career path as an SAS doctor." We think these things are a vital part of making careers all they might be.
- Why does the #SASsix campaign matter, you ask? We believe that every doctor should have the right contract for their work, the opportunity to progress their career, and the opportunity to become a leader and an educator. Many SAS and locally-employed doctors currently have none of these things.
- We are very pleased to show off our new logo for Pride month. The SAS Collective care enormously about inclusivity, in everything we do. We hope you like it as much as we do. #SASsix
- We loved being part of this! Thanks again to @peterprinsleymp.bsky.social and @assocanaes.bsky.social for inviting us to their parliamentary event. SAS doctors make a huge contribution to the medical workforce, and our careers matter to services and patients as much as they matter to us. #SASsix
- I enjoyed contributing to this blog, and I really enjoyed the event. "To the folks we haven’t convinced yet, that’s okay, we like you too. We don’t all have to agree as long as we are all trying to make the world a better place." #SASsix www.sascollective.com/aparliamenta...
- The #SASsix campaign provides a road map for doctors to achieve their potential. None of these ideas is new, and they are each happening somewhere, but rarely all at once. We would like to make them normal.
- We are incredibly grateful to our friends and allies. Each of these organisations has issued statements of support for the #SASsix campaign. What we have in common is a belief that supporting every doctor to reach their potential is good for services and patients, as well as these doctors.
- Delighted that the National Association of Medical People Specialists (NAMPS) have decided to endorse the #SASsix campaign. They have just announced on another platform. More than perhaps any other group of colleagues, medical HR professionals can make a tangible difference to SAS careers. Bravo!
- We LOVE being able to add new folks to this slide. We can only achieve anything with friends and allies, and we are incredibly grateful to all of you. You are wonderful. #SASsix
- Alongside these three Royal Colleges, we are also hugely grateful for the ongoing support of the HCSA, Medical Protection, @gmcuk.bsky.social, @assocanaes.bsky.social, @ics-updates.bsky.social, @mededleaders.bsky.social and @medicalwomenuk.bsky.social. If you want to join these names, get in touch.
