On 1 May 2025, our ERC Synergy-sponsored project, The Hidden Weapon: Blockade in the Era of the Two World Wars, or BLOCKADE for short, will begin. BLOCKADE is a collaborative initiative aimed at uncovering the most globally consequential blockades in history, those of the World Wars.

I am beyond excited to work on this with @elisabeth-piller.bsky.social , with Alan Kramer, and Jonas Scherner, and our host institutions @uvahumanities.bsky.social, @uni-freiburg.de, @uni-hamburg.de and @ntnu.

We will recruit a team of nine PhD candidates and ten postdoctoral researchers who, together with us PIs, will demonstrate that blockades are essential to understanding not only how the world wars were fought but also their global scope, totality, immediate effects, and long-term repercussions.
