Representative Deborah Ross

Proudly serving #NC02. Former civil rights attorney and NC legislator.
Committees: Judiciary and Science, Space, and Technology
- Here's the bottom line: anything short of releasing all of the Epstein files amounts to a cover up.
- Trump's racist post is almost as unsurprising as it is disgusting. He is the President of the United States. There is no excuse for his behavior. He demeans the Presidency and America.
- 9 in 10 Americans say there's a cost of living crisis. And the actions of this admin have only made things worse. Tariffs have passed costs onto the consumers. Wages haven't gone up. And higher insurance premiums only put less money in everyone's pockets.
- You have questions about the Epstein files. And the @demwomencaucus.bsky.social is demanding—and getting—answers. I sat down with @kamlager-dove.house.gov to answer some of your top questions about the Epstein files.
- Recording an ICE agent doesn't make you an agitator. Bringing meals to neighbors scared to leave home doesn't make you an extremist. Making sure a child isn't abducted doesn't make you a domestic terrorist. We will not tolerate these attacks on peaceful protest.
- What we have seen happen to athletes at universities across the country cannot continue. But Republicans are more focused on culture wars than making real progress to protect athletes. If they actually wanted to protect athletes, my bipartisan bill would do that.
- February honors the history of Black Americans, which is central to the history of our country. We remember the injustices so many before us faced, and celebrate the progress Black leaders have fought to achieve. This month and beyond, the fight for equal justice for all continues.
- "In one 2014 email exchange between a victim and the male modeling scout who recruited her into Epstein’s network, the scout’s email address is redacted while the victim’s isn’t properly redacted."
- Congress passed a bill to require the release of all Epstein files in November. The admin is breaking the law to cover up allegations against Trump and the powerful. We need an independent investigation from DOJ OIG.
- Kristi Noem has refused to take accountability for the actions of ICE and DHS. If she won't be fired or resign, then she must be impeached. I have called for all three.
- Epstein's survivors haven't come forward just for half of the files to be released. This isn't about protecting victims. It's about protecting those in power. I will continue to fight for the transparency this admin continues to deny survivors.
- Join me this Thursday at 6:30 PM for a Town Hall in Garner! As we experience the dangerous and divisive actions of this administration, I want to hear from you. You can RSVP using the link below: forms.gle/g3M8EzJ3rN7C...
- From warrantless raids to the use of force against U.S. citizens and lawful immigrants, Secretary Noem has violated the law. That's why I joined @robinkelly.house.gov in introducing articles of impeachment against Secretary Kristi Noem. It’s time for accountability.
- Americans don’t want chaos and carnage in our streets. We don’t want masked agents detaining small children, ripping innocent people from their homes, or terrorizing peaceful communities. We don’t want heavily-armed men who act in our name, with our tax dollars, to bully & kill with impunity.
- I voted NO on the Homeland Security funding bill yesterday. The immigration raids we've seen are out of control & deeply disturbing. And the included funding for FEMA is fully insufficient to meet the needs of Western NC.
- Former Special Counsel Jack Smith confirmed what we already knew: Trump is the person responsible for inciting an insurrection January 6th.
- I will be voting NO on the Homeland Security funding bill. The immigration raids we've seen are out of control & deeply disturbing. And the included funding for FEMA is insufficient to meet the needs of Western NC.
- 53 years ago, Roe v. Wade marked a major victory for women's freedom. Today that right to reproductive freedom is gone. And the attacks on women’s health have only gone further: millions are losing Medicaid coverage & expiring ACA tax credits priced people out of care. Republicans are to blame.
- I was so honored to join the opening celebration for Wake County's New Public Health Center, and see the federal funding I secured for this project being put to work. This is one step forward in getting accessible and affordable health care to everyone in our community.
- Yesterday, Congresswoman Alma Adams and I hosted a roundtable with colleges and universities from across North Carolina to hear how we can best support them while they deal with cuts to federal funding and other challenges. I am committed to fighting for the resources that NC's universities need.
- On MLK Day, we remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life, legacy, and his profound impact on our nation. Today, when our country's atmosphere feels more charged and tense than ever, Dr. King's message of non-violent resistance and unity is more important than ever.
- I'm so proud to celebrate the Wake County Public Health Center opening its doors. In 2022, I secured $2 million in federal funding to help bring this project to life. This facility is an important step forward in helping our community access the care they need.
- Yesterday, Governor Stein and the North Carolina Delegation convened to discuss the progress, roadblocks and steps ahead to rebuild Western NC. We must work together, across party lines, to get things done for Western North Carolina.
- Fatima did all the right things to be in this country; she has work authorization, no criminal record, and is allowed to be here while her asylum case was pending. Yet she was still detained for over a month. This is happening across the country. It's unlawful and unjust.
- The Fed Chair must remain independent and nonpartisan -- whether or not the administration in power agrees with their decisions. The Trump admin's investigation into Powell is political intimidation, and it threatens our economic stability.
- On Thursday, the House achieved a milestone when it passed a bill to extend ACA tax credits. But there is still a ways to go before it's signed into law. In the meantime, I'll be doing everything in my power to get this bill over the finish line and lower health care costs.
- The House finally passed an extension of the ACA tax credits. But let's be clear: this was an avoidable crisis. For months, Republicans refused to work with Democrats to prevent health care costs from going up. Now, it goes to the Senate, where I hope this will pass ASAP.
- Minneapolis is the latest community to experience violence at the hands of ICE and CBP. We saw it in North Carolina too. Federal immigration officers have been abusing their power and violating people's rights. Our people have said: enough is enough.
- Later today, the House finally plans hold a vote to extend ACA tax credits, despite Republican leadership's attempts to prevent this from happening. Americans across the country have made their voices clear -- healthcare prices are too expensive. I will keep fighting to lower costs.
- Today, our country saw the killing of an unarmed woman in Minneapolis by a masked ICE agent. The evidence does not justify this act of violence. The masked shooter must be criminally investigated and face the consequences.
- Trump wants to buy Greenland, our NATO ally, and destabilize our relationship with Europe. Instead of lowering costs for the American people, this administration is focused on attempts to take over foreign nations. www.wsj.com/politics/nat...
- Five years ago, President Trump incited a violent mob on the U.S. Capitol. 5 years later, Trump & his Republican enablers continue to rewrite history, peddling lies & pardoning violent rioters. We must pledge to tell the truth of what happened & continue fighting for our sacred democracy.
- Last night, Donald Trump authorized a military operation to enact regime change in Venezuela. He acted without regard for the constitution and without considering the long-term consequences for our security or our democracy.
- Congress has finally given the Lumbee Tribe full federal recognition after fighting for 137 years for the benefits they deserve. This is long overdue, and I am thrilled that the Lumbee will finally have access to the same services as other federally recognized tribes.
- Western NC is STILL waiting for the federal dollars it needs to fully recover. I led @adams.house.gov, @foushee.house.gov, & Rep. Don Davis to introduce a bill to cut the red tape and get Western NC the relief they deserve, faster. Read more here: spectrumlocalnews.com/nc/charlotte...
- Happy Hanukkah! May this holiday bring all those celebrating joy and light, and serve as a powerful reminder of the resilience of the Jewish people. Chag Sameach!
- Next week is our last legislative week of the year and our last chance to preserve access to life-saving care for our constituents. It's time for Republicans to join Democrats to extend the ACA tax credits and save health care access for millions of Americans.
- Rural hospitals in NC were already at risk of closing before the Big Ugly Law. Now, the GOP plan will threaten more than 600,000 North Carolinians’ Medicaid benefits and will shutter even more local hospitals. spectrumlocalnews.com/nc/charlotte...
- Today I led my NC colleagues in demanding Speaker Mike Johnson provide his plan to avoid a health care crisis. With the looming expiration of ACA tax credits, hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians will face increased health care costs or loss of coverage.
- Today I spoke about Fatima, a young woman from Wendell who was detained by CBP while simply doing her job. She has no criminal history, a pending asylum claim, and she was still denied bond. We won't stop fighting until Fatima is home where she belongs.
- I led my colleagues in calling on House leadership to reject an AI moratorium that would jeopardize protections for women and girls. We cannot turn back progress. We have a responsibility to create safeguards that protect against the harms of AI.
- Republicans have spent years trying to rip up the Affordable Care Act. They still have no backup plan. If they let ACA tax credits expire, millions of people will pay more for basic health care. Extend the tax credits now.
- Fátima Issela Velasquez-Antonio has never been a threat. She is a valued member of her community, and she deserves to be treated as such. There is no safety gained by ripping families apart. We will not stop fighting until she is back where she belongs. Bring Fatima home.
- Happy Small Business Saturday! Let's shop local and support the businesses that power our local economy and make Wake County home.
- Happy Thanksgiving! I hope today is filled with laughter and good food with the people you love. Sending warm wishes from my family to yours.
