- Why do crime researchers who should know better continue to mistake correlation for causation? If you type out the sentence “but the results are not as strong as the correlational data suggest,” maybe you should stop there.

- In my dissertation (working on revising this chapter into a journal article atm) I address some of the issues John discusses in this thread. Here’s a teaser on what policies US adults said would most improve their personal safety from a wider selection of policies typically on public safety polls.
- Although John points out rightfully how lots of identical CJ poll responses can come from very different ideological perspectives, I argue that’s a defining feature of the CJ opinion landscape. Two people might agree on the same policy (crisis response), but want it for very different reasons.
- I take it back. I don’t know who said this.

- Reposted by Rose WerthIt’s worse than “Gaza is being starved and destroyed and no one cares.” It’s that hundreds of millions *do* care and are powerless to stop it. We need a world where that can never happen, where the masses actually have political power.

- Stay tuned for an article from me on the public safety opinion landscape in the US. There are layers to people’s preferences around public safety policy, and it makes for maps that look like this and defy people’s assumptions.
- Indulging myself by adding Dr. to my name on here for a month or so to celebrate 7 years and one successfully defended dissertation. I chose a hell of a time to get a PhD, but I made it!
- If there is that deep dive, I’d also love to hear from the people closest to the violence about what they think is behind the decline, not just city officials. Neighbors, but thinking especially of violence interrupters, victim advocates, street outreach, and hospital intervention staff.
