- I constantly worry about the implications of ecological collapse- but I caution against using tired Malthusian arguments about environment & conflict. Let’s draw attention to the drivers of ecological collapse instead - tackle extreme wealth, fossil fuel companies, industrialised agriculture etc

- Myself & many colleagues are facing this at Sheffield Uni - double punishment for strike action. In the midst of this, yesterday many departments got an email announcing imminent structural reviews (ie redundancies). @sheffielducu.bsky.social
- The University of Sheffield has stopped paying staff. Not for striking but for refusing to work unpaid to make up for strike days they were already docked for. This is punishment, not negotiation. And it’s completely reckless. www.ucu.org.uk/article/1438...
- I have very mixed feeling about this report & the coverage it is getting. It’s good to see biodiversity loss getting attention. BUT experience in tackling #IWT shows linking biodiversity & security issues carries significant risks, often for the most vulnerable www.theguardian.com/environment/...

- Nothing quite like a blanket email from HR to chase away the January blues. @sheffielducu.bsky.social members took lawful strike action in Nov/Dec. we were docked pay. Now the Uni says refusal to reschedule cancelled classes results in breach of contract and 💯 pay deductions. 😡 Punished twice.
- Well that’s me locked out. No pay for the foreseeable future, all because I refuse to reschedule lost teaching, for which I have already lost pay as part of the strike. Please donate to support @sheffielducu.bsky.social members like me at www.gofundme.com/f/heubvb-sup...
- 📚Thrilled to get my hard copy of the new #PoliticalEcology Handbook, expertly put together by @drjesshope.bsky.social @eliapos.bsky.social & @yolandaariadne.bsky.social A go-to resource to get the latest developments in the field⬇️
- This ought to be a huge national news story. But the quiet dismantling of a key sector barely registers outside HE. Maybe someone will care when the local economies that Unis sustain start to go bust too. Important story from @patrickjack.bsky.social & @timeshighered.bsky.social
- Ninety UK universities to have posted accounts so far cut 13,300 jobs last year, spending £303 million on severance pay - sector-wide total clearly going to be well in excess of predicted 10,000. Great reporting by @patrickjack.bsky.social www.timeshighereducation.com/news/pay-spe...
- At Sheffield we have been on long running strike action, and now face a 3 week lock out with 💯 pay deductions. We are striking over restructuring to implement cuts & job losses. This is the reality of the impact of job loss figures across the sector. @sheffielducu.bsky.social

- Bad but unsurprising news about upcoming US withdrawal from @ipbes.net - but the work addressing biodiversity loss continues.
- “We cannot withdraw from the fact that over 1 million species of plants and animals face extinction.” IPBES remains committed to its mandate to provide the most credible science and evidence about biodiversity to all decision makers and actors. — @davidobura.bsky.social , @ipbes.net Chair
