OC-tober days 1 + 2
I did 40 pieces of art in the last 2 weeks and by god I'm gonna milk them for all their worth. Lore is in the thread (1/?)
#asteroidsanddragons #ocsCypress is the Arbiter of Life and Death. He’s associated with the Terra Quadrant, which is the one the story mainly takes place in. The visual inspo for Terra is both traditional medieval fantasy a la D&D and far-future aesthetics. (2/?)
The story itself is a mash of sci-fi and fantasy, so that being reflected in the main setting makes sense! Their planetary law enforcement is handled by the Rangers, who basically operate like UNIT. (3/?)
Libra is the Arbiter of Knowledge and Justice and associated with the Hydro Quadrant. Hydro takes lots of visual cues from ancient Roman and Greek aesthetics, as well as lots of astronomical vibes. (4/?)
Libra’s name comes from the constellation of Libra, hence all the star stuff, and with Knowledge and Justice as her domain, basing that part of the world off of the birth places of philosophical thought and the practice of law made sense. (5/?)
Helio is the Arbiter of Light and Innovation and goes with the Pyro Quadrant. Pyro is inspired by steampunk and Victorian aesthetics with lots of Icarus-inspired elements thrown in. It made sense to throw the Innovation stuff in with the vibes of the Industrial Revolution. (6/?)
Icarus comes in with the engineering involved with the wax wings and his association with the sun. (7/?)
Thespian is the Arbiter of Creativity and the Arts, and they represent the Zephyr Quadrant. Zephyr has been left sort of out-of-order since a big war. Its visual look is inspired by the Wild West and post-World War II Germany. (8/?)
Wild West because I thought that was an interesting take for an “air” place, and it also fits in with the lawlessness of the area. Post-war stuff is worked in because of how the area was affected by the story’s history! I’ll explain that on Day 4. (9/9)
