One of my resolutions for 2026 (which I’ve already put to the test a few times) is “no longer accepting non-apologies.”
“I’m sorry you feel that way”.
Apologize for what you did, not how I feel about it. My feelings are mine to deal with.
“I’m sorry if i hurt you.”
No, not “if”. “That”.

You’re making an apology to me about yourself and how you feel about yourself. How does this address what you did?
You’re not the victim here.

The ‘but’ simply invalidates whatever came before it - so you’re not sorry.

Your apology needs to accept responsibility for your actions, not just generally address the consequences.
