- buddy there is an entire supreme court decision about how not illegal it is.
- So, I recently texted my mentor (who lives by my parent's) about figuring out a future date to bring sekhmet down to repeat the Uhtred pairing. This is... not the event I wanted, but I'm going to fly down with Sekhmet and maybe we'll have some kittens in a few months I can tell my mom to visit. 🥺
- The priest at my church got beat up at an anti-ICE protest on the peninsula this week, and when he showed up for Mass today with a black eye all the church ladies swooned like they had seen a Backstreet Boy.

- Hey gang, a little bird tells me that Kobo put THE TWISTED ONES and NETTLE & BONE on sale until the 15th! (I know it’s in the UK, not sure about US)
- What's glossed over a bit here is it took this guy who proved it like 25 years and a huge community push and tons of advocacy to make this happen. Same with guy who figured out you should wash hands before surgery. We think "why should all this obvious shit be so hard?" But it's ALWAYS been hard

- Hey everyone! Huge news! Our trans girl scout list has sold a total of 146,000 boxes as of today! But MANY trans girl scouts only have 20, 30, 40 boxes sold. I just resorted our list to put those on the top. Go get your girl scout cookies and make a trans kid's day!

- A tough one to sit with--but we must--is that some people's ability to make good art in part derived from, or was protected by, the fact that they were enabling or doing terrible things. View full threadFor a v long time, I conflated "person who can make good art" with "person who has a functioning moral compass." I think that transference (based on appreciation, love, enthusiasm) is something a lot of us do. It hurts a lot when we find that our appreciation was hijacked so someone can do bad shit.
- If you try to be authentically yourself with everyone, it's hard to accept how well others can compartmentalize. To know that they are, like many abusive narcissists, inside a bulletproof prison of their own self-pity & self-regard. They count on & cultivate our inability to see their other selves.
- Finding out that some people's artistic output was not illumination but confession--finding that out as a person is hard enough. As a critic? Whew. Half the reason I wrote Burn It Down is so we can try to unpack how the systems cover for not just normal stress but a host of toxic & horrific patterns
- Being able to manipulate people successfully often derives from a rock-solid understanding of human nature. So does a lot of good art. It would be awesome if talent was always married to virtue, but… *gestures vaguely at all the things*

- for some reason all the techbros have been talking about building Dyson Spheres all of a sudden and to be clear: we are so comedically far from being able to build a dyson sphere that they may as well be promising magic. we are MILLENIA away from building dyson spheres

- This is a fascinating story. ICE tried to buy a warehouse in VA from a Canadian company, to turn into a detention center. One of the company’s advertising partners basically told them that if they sold, they could kiss their ads goodbye. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/01/u...

- There are ample professional disincentives to spilling the inner workings of a court; even misconduct is rarely disclosed. Only reason to demand NDAs is if the Justices are engaging in conduct so egregious that the legal profession would recognize the need for court employees to disclose it.
