Mike Quigley

Representing Illinois' 5th District. House Appropriations & Intel Member, amateur hockey player, and proud Cubs fan. He/Him.
- As the Winter #Olympics begin today, I want to shoutout our Illinois Olympians again! Good luck and go for gold!!🇺🇸
- In the same week that Trump proclaimed Black History Month, his racism has found new lows. Symbolic gestures mean absolutely nothing when Trump demonstrates his disgusting racism every day.
- Last week, I called for the U.S to dismantle ICE. This week, I voted against ALL FUNDING for DHS. I’ll keep doing this until ICE and CBP are out of our communities.
- Jeff Bezos’ decision to terminate a third of the @washingtonpost.com workforce reflects the greatest ails of America today — corporate greed and capitulation to Trump. All journalists should be reinstated, or Bezos should pass the Post onto a better steward.
- “On Friday, I was teaching. On Saturday, my own government was calling me a domestic terrorist, and I was in federal detention centers with the bullet holes all over my body.”
- My newsletter, Catching Up with Quigley, hits inboxes every Friday evening! Some of you may not have received it in recent weeks. Due to federal law, members of Congress can not distribute "unsolicited" mail (including emails) in the 60 days before an election. (More below!)
- Democracy will die in darkness when there’s not enough people to turn on the lights.
- 59% of Americans think ICE has been too aggressive — according to a Fox News poll. After witnessing the murder of two Americans in Minneapolis, the detention of 5-year-old boy, and countless other abuses by Trump's ICE, the tide is turning.
- Great meeting with Alex Romanishin, Former Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine, to discuss the incredible impact of Ukrainian-American businesses. Chicago is home to 3,000+ Ukrainian businesses driving jobs, innovation, and significant economic growth.
- 16 years ago, the Citizens United Supreme Court case reversed century-old campaign finance restrictions and opened the floodgates for obscene corporate donations in politics. Since then, I’ve been calling for this decision to be overturned.
- I recently visited the Greater West Town Project. They provide resources to help thousands of Chicagoans on our city’s West Side find jobs. With two alternative high schools and vocational training courses from woodworking to manufacturing, GWTP proves that not every career needs a college degree.
- This weekend, Trump’s DOJ released an additional 3 million pages of the #EpsteinFiles, many with disturbing evidence against the President and his friends. There are still another 3 million pages that have yet to be released.
- During my time in Congress, I’ve been incredibly proud to bring home nearly $4.3 million in funding for the park district. Every kid in every neighborhood should have access to the low-cost camps, sports, and other programming in our field houses.
- Instead of standing with the Iranian people in their pursuit of democracy and freedom, President Trump is again turning to threats of military force. More below.

- The average Illinois family spent $1,781 more in 2025 compared to 2024, due to Trump's inflationary tariffs. To bring #inflation down, Speaker Johnson & the Republican majority must end these reckless tariffs for good.
- I want to congratulate @paul-lisnek.bsky.social on a great 18 years with WGN’s Political Report! While I’m sad to see the show go, I look forward to continuing to enjoying Paul’s commentary elsewhere on @wgntv.com in the future. Thanks, Paul!
- After barely surviving Elon Musk's DOGE, the Social Security Administration is strapped and understaffed — all while 112,429 people in our district receive Social Security. 86 years ago today, the first check was issued. I'm fighting to make sure you get your benefits continuously and on time
- The #Epstein files released today included disturbing allegations of abusive and criminal actions taken by President Trump. These accounts are horrifying. Content warning for the following.
- I recently met with Chicago Women in Trades — a nonprofit that supports female laborers (like welders, carpenters, and insulators) in male-dominated fields. Women only make up 4.3% of America's construction workforce.
- Comedy legend and actress Catherine O’Hara just passed. I always enjoyed her in Second City TV (and more recently, Schitt’s Creek!). Rest in peace, Ms. O’Hara.
- I just heard that the Department of Justice has taken journalists @donlemonofficial.bsky.social and Georgia Fort into custody — for covering a protest in Minnesota.
- I am incredibly relieved that @repilhan.bsky.social was not injured and so impressed that she continued her town hall after the attack. Nonetheless, an attack like this could easily have ended in serious injury or even her death. More below.
- I’m calling for dismantling #ICE. Here’s why.
- Kim Jong Un would be impressed. I'm cosponsoring @elfreth.house.gov’s bill to stop this nonsense and prohibit our National Parks from putting any living political figures on the National Parks pass.
- The two federal agents who killed Alex Pretti were placed on administrative leave. This is a first step towards justice, but these agents must be held accountable. More below.
- "The past was erased, the erasure was forgotten, the lie became the truth." — George Orwell, 1984 Trump is following the autocrat playbook line by line, and we cannot ignore it. More below.
- Trying to erase this nation's history of slavery does not change our past. Nor does it recognize how far we've come from the ugliest chapters of our history.
- On Holocaust Remembrance Day, we honor and mourn the millions of Jewish lives lost during the Holocaust at the hands of the evil Nazi regime. As we see antisemitism rise around the world, we must rededicate ourselves to the fight against it and stamp out bigotry wherever we find it. #NeverAgain
- I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Secretary Noem must go. From lying to the public to obstructing Congress, her incompetence is putting Americans at risk. She has escalated tensions and cheered on the ICE behavior that led to Alex Pretti's killing this past weekend. We must #ImpeachNoem.
- The murder of Alex Pretti is shocking and horrifying. It is now abundantly clear that, under Trump, ICE cannot function as intended. ICE has been co-opted by Trump into a secret police to frighten, intimidate, and harm. As the saying goes, the fish rots from the head. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
- Last week, the Trump administration announced it was terminating $2 billion for mental health services. They reversed this decision one day later after @reppaultonko.bsky.social, myself, and 100+ Democrats stood up for SAMHSA. Pressure works. Keep calling, keep speaking up — we can not give in.
- I stopped by the Rogers Park Metra stop — which is in need of some serious repairs. As a senior member or the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, I’m fighting to make sure Chicago gets the federal funds needed to improve public transit🛤️🚂
- O'Hare was just named the busiest airport in the nation — with over 850,000 flights a year! As a senior member of the committee that funds transportation in Congress, I’ve been proud to secure federal funding to expand and modernize O’Hare over the years.
- ICE has brutally killed another person in Minneapolis. Trump has set lawless thugs loose on our streets and the more he encourages them, the more extreme their actions become. ICE and CBP need to be pulled out of our cities immediately and the killers must be brought to justice.
- Trump and his family have made BILLIONS off his second presidency from pay-to-play ventures like Trumpcoin. The grift ends now. Check out the Trump Grift Tracker from @oversightdemocrats.bsky.social here.
- A new sheriff in Pennsylvania just terminated his predecessor’s 287(g) agreement with ICE, which let DHS take cops away from their duties for raids. My bill, the PROTECT Immigration Act, will end 287(g) and stop DHS from coopting local law enforcement.
