Been ill, missed the conversations. He/him. Have degrees in history and law. Had a career in politics and research. Mostly just coping with matters beyond my control these days.

- Reposted by Geoff A.This is really an instance of a very longstanding trend where secular pundits end up unwittingly aligned with fundamentalists in treating the crudest and most extreme version of any faith as the genuine article and everything else as somehow inauthentic.

- So grocery shopping across the street from the high school when it let out, and hundreds of kids came marching off campus with signs and chants of "Fuck ICE." For the anecdata file of how this is all going.
- Reposted by Geoff A.VA Gov. Spanberger (moderate, was in CIA) and NYC Mayor Mamdani (left, is in DSA) both taking steps to block local law enforcement from helping ICE as it violently violates people's rights is a good example of how the relevant divide in the Dem coalition isn't center-left, it's fight-don't fight.
- Reposted by Geoff A.One of the reasons I so greatly dislike the “can men and women be friends?” nonsense (yes, full stop, shut up) is that it casts suspicion on people with opposite-sex friends instead of where it more often belongs: on people with no opposite-sex friends.
- Reposted by Geoff A.One of the most important things we need to be educated on is how billionaires profit from prison slave labor. So many corporations rely on it for their precious profits. The more people in prison (especially private prisons) the better for them.

- Reposted by Geoff A.the idea of epstein files as a moral panic is absurd but i do think the fact that all this is getting aired out and yet there seems to be little in the way of reprocussions for these folks...that's probably not good!

- Reposted by Geoff A.I think often of the women in the Louis CK story—how they all left comedy and never went back, but he’s still going. It’s everywhere and it’s such a loss for them and for us—for things they’ll never make that we’ll never see.

- Reposted by Geoff A.I'd like to add that like in all industries, when we stop understanding how our tools work, we become entirely dependent on the corporate entities that own the mold. We are trading the ability to build and repair for the convenience of being permanent tenants in someone else's infrastructure/subs.

- Reposted by Geoff A.Swear to god, ICE could just announce they're leaving a city but not leave and the media will just stop covering that city completely even though ICE never left. It's what ICE and the media did with LA and they're doing it with Minneapolis too

- Reposted by Geoff A.All these men driving women out of their fields with giggly idiot grabassery and then bloviating to the public about how the lack of women is proof of male intellectual superiority... I hate them all. I hate them so much.

- Reposted by Geoff A.An interesting fact: D.C. has already received 18,000 individual tax returns and 300 corporate returns. The Republican resolution repealing the city's tax law passed the House today, and if it passes the Senate and is signed by the president, many of those returns will have to be redone.
- A Republican-led resolution could trigger tax season chaos, potentially pushing D.C.'s filing deadlines into the fall, depriving the city of almost $700 million in revenue, and eliminating tax credits for low-income residents. 51st.news/republican-b...
