It's taking longer to find a new job when you are laid off. I get so many inquiries from people who have been out of work for over a year.
Feb 5, 2026 13:14I am a hiring manager at my company and interview probably 100 people for, roughly, 6-8 open positions (per year).
We get hundreds of applications for each opening and that is after HR does their prescreens, so likely thousands before that.
It is really bad out there.
Truly. Seen some very talented and motivated people trying to learn “ai skills” to get jobs, making my head spin.
It’s even worse for people with 15+ years of highly valuable experience.
