- I just deleted my TikTok account and you should too! My stated reason for deleting: “I will not support fascists or mass surveillance”
- Warning: doomscrolling in bed is hazardous to your health. Proof: while bed-rotting post-call this evening my dog knocked my phone out of my hand, resulting in it striking my face and splitting my upper lip.

- Time to change Canada’s stillbirth definition and regulatory framework “The definition and criteria used for reporting stillbirths in Canada are idiosyncratic and dated, and directly responsible for the country’s artificially high and rising stillbirth rate”
- “More importantly, bureaucratic processes associated with stillbirth add substantially to the grief experienced by people who have suffered such a pregnancy loss”

- A Pregnant Woman at Risk of Heart Failure Couldn’t Get Urgent Treatment. She Died Waiting for an Abortion. Ciji Graham’s death was completely preventable. She was failed multiple times by doctors who mismanaged her treatable arrhythmia simply because she was pregnant.

- While living in Vancouver: I watched Brent Butt replace the licence sticker on his vehicle outside a brunch restaurant. I stood in line behind Eric McCormack at Future Shop while he was returning a TV. I passed Biff Naked in the birthing unit at SPH when she was visiting a family member
- I’d be interested to know the magnitude of this problem in Canada as well. In addition to cosmetic surgery, fertility tourism is also popular. This often results in women of very advanced age & with medical comorbidities returning to Canada with multiple gestations & severe complications
- This is a key concept: people embrace pseudoscience because it has become difficult to trust the healthcare system, whether it is because of structural racism and sexism, or because for-profit care manipulated by pharma companies & private equity have done nothing but make medical care less safe
- At least they still tell you about lice, (let alone anything else) unlike our school board 😬
- I find it weird that women in their 40s are thirsting over actors named Connor and Hudson. This is likely related to the fact that I am the mother of a 19 year-old.
- Last night, I watched Fantastic 4: First Steps and as an OBGYN I have so many questions.
- 1. What exactly is the “scanner” that Reid is using to look for “anomalies” and why does it look more like a Xerox machine than an ultrasound? I am concerned that he may be irradiating the fetus & Sue’s reproductive organs unnecessarily
- 2. If Sue could make herself invisible while the fetus stays visible then why didn’t she just do that all along? Also: the fetus was breech when they did the big reveal just before leaving for space. Hopefully he turned to vertex before she went into labour

View full thread6. Getting back to the birth: what happened to the amniotic fluid and placenta? Was the fluid just floating around in droplets in the cabin of the ship? Hopefully they brought some menstrual products onboard (not just 100 tampons…IYKYK) to deal with the postpartum lochia)
- This is a terrific metaphor, especially since (1) birth control (despite some risks & side effects) is still significantly safer than pregnancy (2) every pregnancy incurs permanent alterations & damage to the pregnant person’s body

- There’s a flashback scene in one of the episodes of Handmaid’s Tale where June is told at a cafe that she is no longer able to access her own bank account. Based on current events, I can’t help thinking that the USA is about 6 months away from this.
- Walking home this evening I saw a little girl skipping and twirling down the sidewalk. It got me thinking: when was the last time *I* skipped down the sidewalk? Perhaps I should remedy that. PSA: in the near future, if you ever see a middle-aged woman skipping down Wortley road, that may be me 😉
- Ontario Blue Box changes leave small businesses scrambling for recycling Yet another example of how Doug Ford’s push to privatize services is ruining everything, from healthcare to garbage collection.
- On this day in 2021, I was the on-service MFM physician during a COVID outbreak on our antenatal unit. Hearing about the violent attempted coup in Washington DC just added to the surreal dystopian environment. I had no idea what the future held, but everything happening this week is unsurprising 🤷🏼♀️
- My child’s elementary school has had 3 fire alarm/evacuations in the past 2 days. The “reassuring” email from school states that the false alarms were due to “dust on the sensors.” Yet another example (in addition to viruses) of why schools need better indoor air quality! Clean air = safe schools
- I strongly advise *all* of my pregnant patients to get COVID vaccine (as well as the influenza & TDaP) Unfortunately COVID vaccines are not available in my hospital-based clinic (unlike flu & TDaP). I think uptake would be higher if they could get them immediately after being counselled!

- We do not want this in Ontario or in any other province. However, this is the slippery slope that Doug Ford’s government is putting us on. Privatization and for-profit healthcare literally kills patients.
