- Our new study is out! 🎉 Driven by MD‑PhD Ludivine Bersier, our work shows how chemotherapy‑induced gut injury creates a systemic “chemomemory” that protects against colorectal cancer (CRC) liver metastasis. 🔗 doi.org/10.1038/s414... 🧵 Thread 👇
- 🦠 Chemo‑induced gut injury expands bacteria that produce indole‑3‑propionic acid (IPA). 🦴 IPA reaches the bone marrow, normalizes myelopoiesis, and reduces immunosuppressive monocytes. 🛡️ This boosts T‑cell anti‑tumor activity and creates a metastasis‑refractory state.
- 🦀 In patients with cancer, IPA levels are generally low, but increase in a subset after chemotherapy. ‼️ Higher IPA levels anticorrelate with monocyte abundance, a feature linked to poor prognosis.
