- Reposted by Peter SketchThis is only related in a sideways manner, but: the story of any small slice of humanity is the story of humanity, just boiled down and distilled. So: In 2020, we had a lot of conversations about harassment at SF/F conventions, and Isaac Asimov came up several times.

- Reposted by Peter SketchThis is a fun game - good summary here of why while I love Much Ado About Nothing it is incredibly high up my list of 'plays that absolutely should not be taught in school'. (In English. As theatre, fine) Trying to think what the other 'god don't try and *teach* that' classics are for me.

- Reposted by Peter SketchThe only way Labour can win the next election is by governing well. That might not be enough, but it’s the bare minimum. The questions to be asking about any potential new PM are “what is their agenda and can they achieve it?” Not “do they currently poll well?” Or “can they handle a media round?”
- Reposted by Peter Sketch- I was lying in bed the other night - was you - yes Dud, and I heard this tap, tap, tap on the window - who was it? - bloody Jim Pickard of the FT - no - yes Dud, "Peter, Peter" he said, "tell me about Jeffrey Epstein" - and what did you say? - I told him to 'fuck off' - that told him - it did Dud
- Reposted by Peter Sketchhad to look this up because i was pretty sure there was no Shakespeare play of this name and there isn't: instead today i learned that Shakespeare did a guest verse in a play by some hacks in the early 1590s. you love to see it
- Reposted by Peter Sketchsomebody on here once asked me if medieval builders also pissed in a bottle and chucked it under the joists and I got to explain that no they probably just pissed into the rubble wall infill

- Reposted by Peter SketchYes, quite. It's the biggest scandal of this administration, so far, probably. It's an average Tuesday under Johnson.

- Reposted by Peter Sketch... her polling is incredibly poor *and* very hard - not much room for improvement. The right wing press have done a absolute number on her. We remain a deeply classist and sexist nation - and it shows in how she's treated by the public. And it goes way beyond normal anti-Labour peeps. Urgh
- Reposted by Peter SketchI'm so torn on Rayner. Clearly the best person for the job in terms of ability. Incredible story, personable, good at politics, charismatic and has delivered in govt. Has shown it again today. A symbol of what Labour should help people achieve. But...

- Reposted by Peter SketchHe... literally released no new songs last year. I don't normally get annoyed at awards going to tedious shit I don't like, because awards are nonsense, but surely "Songwriter of the Year" should go to someone who wrote a song that year? That's kind of the whole point, surely?
- And every Reform voter we meet on the doorstep will tell us about this and about how it shows they're right not to trust politicians.

In Norway we call it 'Granmeis' Spruce Tit, & it's so numerous (500 000 to 800 000 pairs!) it became the country's Bird Of the Year in 2025 1/4

The proposals appear designed to be watered down - but even then I am unsure they get through a hostile PLP. So you're likely to get at least 2 sets of u-turn headlines, entirely undercutting the political point
- Labour's changes to immigration rules, including potentially applying them retroactively, would be some of the most draconian anti-immigration policies in decades. They're the hostile environment on speed. This is pure cruelty as policy, with absolutely no merit to them archive.today/2026.02.03-2...
