- I'm reading Nigel Planer's - very good - autobiography at the moment. One of the things I always look forward to in memoirs written by that original wave of alternative comedians is the inevitable cameo from Keith Allen being a total arsehole. It's almost comforting.

- Inspired by Wendy's post I listened to some of his big American hits earlier (Jack and Diane was indeed his only UK hit). Shakin' Springsteen - nothing more, nothing less. But I'm sure he's a lovely bloke.

- Hello, @chartmusictotp.bsky.social. Your new Patreon-only newsletter is a thing of joy and wonder, so please make some more if possible. I just GUFFAWED at the spectacularly grim '70s photograph of Ray Jackson from Lindisfarne eating a triangular sandwich. It exceeded my expectations.

- Mackenzie Crook's Small Prophets is wonderful. Of course it is. I find it heartening that an auteur such as Crook - for auteur he is - has been allowed to pursue his distinctive vision, without interference, in TV Land. A quiet triumph. Sometimes, just sometimes, good things happen.
- Farewell, Catherine O'Hara. One of *the* great comic actors of her generation, a hugely versatile performer who was never less than wonderful in every role she played. Such a terribly sad loss. www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9rj...

- I've just received a press release in which the serviceable TV detective drama Dalziel and Pascoe is described as 'iconic'.

- Just finished writing the script for this one. A fitting end, I think, to the first series of something @wednesdaygj.bsky.social and myself have enjoyed immensely. We'll take a short break before work begins on series two. In the meantime, thanks for listening!

- Where better to end our first series than with an objectively terrible and offensive film made by a strange man who once caught lighting in a bottle? A steaming juggernaut of inevitable yet fascinating disappointment.

- Ah! Thank you, Neil. I was a Grampian and STV kid, so that may explain why I never saw it.
- The Kathy Bates version of Matlock must also be the only TV reboot in which the original version exists in-universe and serves as a jokingly acknowledged inspiration for the main character. Unless I've missed another one?
