Dario Amodei was (among) the first of the CEO class to voice some public pushback against ICE yesterday, while later going on TV to say he appreciated trump changing course
today you see dealbook got an internal OAI memo with altman echoing same
CEOs are herd animals. maybe more of this today
my guess: CEOs will watch to see if this wave crests or keeps growing
if it doesnt stop, you'll see more versions of "I appreciate president trump doing the right thing, b/c ICE has gone too far"
threading the needle between calming employees and not pissing off POTUS
why do you think we haven't seen more internal employee freakout a la Palantir Slack or even the Google walkouts?
It’s not a good time to get fired in Silicon Valley
Jan 27, 2026 17:19yeah i think this is right. dynamics are different than 2016. layoffs are now rolling and regular. and hiring is concentrated on the AI people
people who have the most leverage in this way are the AI guys who can go anywhere they want
Makes sense!
Mike, thank you for answering this question on social media so I didn’t have to go report it out
