- My sisters have spent years telling me I'm tiny with examples of me posed with perfectly normal sized things. For example 🎒
- "Fake citations have turned into a nightmare for research librarians, who by some estimates are wasting up to 15 percent of their work hours responding to requests for nonexistent records that ChatGPT or Google Gemini alluded to."

- I have a lot of friends with very small dogs who will be disappointed this isn't what it sounds like.

- in case you’re wondering, i’ve lost my mind 46 times this year for an average generation of 12.2 minutes each time
- I used Miro for a couple of hours once this year. They somehow still managed to generate a report for me.
- A movie that takes place where you’re from.

- It's baffling that even people with chronic illnesses aren't eligible in the UK. You have to specifically qualify as immunocompromised.
- It always seems a little unfair to boil a week long workshop into 5 minutes or less, but these videos are always a fun way to capture the spirit of #MoffittIMO.
- And to get a feel of how participating on these workshops is like then @parmvir.com is the person behind these @scientistsinc.org's videos, expect this year's to come at some point in 2026; imoworkshop.org/videos.html
- I love the idea of a "super-facilitator". Not sure I am there, but this would qualify as a serious life goal.
- heartening news for those of us trying to build "leader-full" movements --> while leaders that empower others outperformed by leaders that dominate others at first, their teams come out ahead in the long run hbr.org/2025/09/ever...
- Hear hear.
- Me doing my best to regulate my body clock using that sweet sweet Florida sunshine! Thanks again @oliviawalch.bsky.social for the time and the chat for @smbmathbiology.bsky.social's podcast #BiologyInNumbers. It was super cool learning about your work @arcascope.bsky.social ⏰☀️💊 #scicomm
- Really enjoyed chatting with @parmvir.com on the Biology in Numbers podcast! Thanks for having me. open.spotify.com/episode/2oIC...
- You can take the girl out of the lab... Despite leaving the lab more than 2 years ago, last week saw the publication of a study I was co-author on: physoc.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1113/... An intricate piece of work tracking nerve fibers in the lungs, and a reminder of how long science takes!

- I had the absolute delight of watching Ian Mckellen and Patrick Stewart perform this in London and it was amazing! For a tiny fraction of the price too 😂

- Whereas what I took away from that conversation was "read more science fiction and go to more parties. And that will help your scientific career." 😂 You can all get links to @suzannesindi.bsky.social's episode here: smb.org/news/13442398 #Scicomm #BiologyInNumbers
- Randomly listening to #BiologyInNumbers episodes (by @parmvir.com for @smbmathbiology.bsky.social) and really enjoyed @suzannesindi.bsky.social's! I wish I'd heard it during my Ph.D. - esp: "most of the time what you try does not work... it feels like you're always solving a puzzle".
- Being interviewed for a podcast is as fun as nerve wracking (as you all can hear! 😅), but... what an experience! And what a lovely mashup of stories from amazing people. Thanks @parmvir.com for letting me be a part of it!
- This year's @smbmathbiology.bsky.social meeting provided us with another delightful mashup of math biologists (and me) talking about science, and in Amy's case, ultra-running and conference coffee ☕ Thanks to all the excellent attendees who agreed to speak with me for Biology in Numbers. #scicomm
- Always a pleasure Gosia 😸

- This was fun and great to learn about the research (and trivia) of colleagues from #SMB2025 this summer in Edmonton. Thanks to @parmvir.com for hosting a great podcast 🙌 🧬 🔢 podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/s...

- OK, that looks way more difficult than the races I've done! Kudos to you Amy 👏🏽 And thanks again for agreeing to be interviewed 😀
- This is so depressing. "it is easy to see that given an orderly society and a functioning economy, democratic politics may become a low priority. The answer to the question “will ‘the people’ tolerate authoritarian rule?” is yes, absolutely."
- The point is that many can live quite normally under the thumb of authoritarianism. Yes: many suffer and suffer now but large swaths of the American public chooses to be clueless and it’s not difficult. This is how the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper. www.vox.com/the-big-idea...

- So 4th generation would be good right? We just need to stick it out a bit longer 😬

- I too tend to apply my nerdy capabilities to my hobbies, including running. So I love this little bit on converting miles to km while you're in the middle of a race. Although depending on how much I'm suffering, the even most basic arithmetic can be a challenge 😂 Nice work @joshuabull.bsky.social
- It's a little-known fact that Fibonacci was a keen marathon runner. Okay, he wasn't but he could be an invaluable help if you are a keen marathon runner. @joshuabull.bsky.social is very keen.
- I have to admit that if I'm wearing my Garmin then I don't bother with this conversion...instead I now spend most of the time trying to work out my average pace based on how many cumulative seconds over/under target pace I've been each kilometre 😆
- That's making my head hurt just thinking about it! 😂
- I very much enjoyed thinking about how to present this introductory guide, as well as speaking with IMO folks yesterday about #SciComm. And I may have included one or more melodramatic messages to impress upon people the need for more and better communication 🫣
- Probably not standard in many PhD courses (that should change!) but our @moffittnews.bsky.social @mathonco.bsky.social students had a lecture on science communication and outreach by the one and only @parmvir.com @scientistsinc.org
- An excellent and very comprehensive resource for grad students-to-be!
- It's been a while since I applied to the #NSFGRFP... but over that time I developed this guide based on my experiences and mentoring other students with the NSF-GRFP through Cientifico Latino, Inc. (and otherwise)! 💛 Thank you to John Lê for the additional contributions!!
- I didn't realize this was a genre, but how interesting...
- Hey #horrorsky, anyone know of any good places to submit horror audio drama scripts for podcasts? They’re fun to write and send out. #horror #podcasts
- I will never get over the irony of seeing what ends up behind a paywall. #SciComm
- Ask me what I did yesterday and I'd struggle to tell you. Put on this song after years since I last heard it and I can sing every word without even knowing what I'm saying. Muscle memory is wild! Also I have no fucking clue why I don't listen to Fiona Apple more often www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9Wn...

- A lovely little 🧵on how science often takes a winding path and the way that can present for #WomenInSTEM 🧪 Congratulations Noemi on getting here Noemi!
- I really wish there was an edit button. That way I might not have weirdly mentioned you twice in that post 😂

- More to the point, who's going to eat them?
- Of course everyone wants lower speed limits on their own roads, while finding it a major inconvenience elsewhere. 20mph limits FTW

- Also reminds me of Bclassic ollywood movie posters from the 60s. Just to offer breadth to the demographics they probably hit.
- This year we wrapped up S2 of Biology in Numbers for @smbmathbiology.bsky.social. I've loved hearing scientists talk passionately about #MathBio. Digging into the data to learn about the podcast’s reach, it seems so do many others. So here is the podcast by the numbers, starting with an intro. 1/2
- Part of its remit is to support the community, so it's cool to see downloads worldwide, reflecting @smbmathbiology.bsky.social's international members. It's also great to see the # of followers on different platforms indicating regular listeners. Go to smb.org/podcast to subscribe if you haven't!
- "Edwards said he understands why many of his patients are skeptical of the MMR vaccine, which he said lacked adequate safety data." but also: "Edwards, who had never treated a measles patient until this year, said he advised patients to take vitamin A supplements such as cod liver oil." 🤦
- As the US hits a 33-year high in measles infections, there is now a "race" to find a treatment for the disease. One pharma company "is banking on a continuing decline in vaccination rates to fuel a need for measles treatments—and in turn, more investor interest" 🎁 link www.wsj.com/health/healt...
- 😂🫠😭
- "Other readers might fall back on shoulder-shrugging, disbelief, denialism or even fear. Many will assume that, however horrific things get, they won’t affect “me.” A perusal of the Project 2025 tracker might change some of those minds. It certainly should."
- “The website counts 317 proposals in total. So far, 115 are “complete,” including eliminating the U.S. Agency for International Development, banning transgender individuals from serving in the military and funding ICE for 100,000 detention beds.” thehill.com/opinion/whit...

- This is the same incompetent who is claiming that mRNA vaccines become completely useless with a single point mutation, yes? What a fucking bozo.
- Is it just me or do most headlines feel like they're created by a random word generator these days?
- 🦠 New @nature.com study finds that respiratory viruses like flu & COVID can wake up dormant breast cancer cells in the lungs, triggering metastatic growth within days. This IL‑6‑driven inflammation correlated w/ higher metastasis & mortality risk in cancer survivors. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
- Whoa. So I could have been keeping my cells in culture alive with Nazi gas cylinders? That is wild, and apparently not common knowledge among biologists...at least not this one. #SciSky 🧫🧪
