- Barlow et al, used PAMGuard to help identify clicks from the elusive Pygme Beaked Whale. Read about it in Marine Mammal Science (and no, that picture is NOT Pygme Beaked Whales): onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
- This weeks PAMGuard paper is a study of small cetaceans in the New York / New Jersey harbour Estuary: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
- Another article using PAMGuard, this time to study finless porpoise around Korea. This is also a reminder of how lucky many of us are to be working mostly in our mother tongue! koreascience.kr/article/JAKO...

- This week, we're working with Prof. Marie Roch from SDSU to deliver a course on the latest PAMGuard features at @whoi.edu. All course materials are being made available at www.pamguard.org/tutorials.html
- The PAMGuard team are delighted to announce the release of a detector for the Scottish Wild Haggis (Haggis Scoticus). This is available as a plugin module, which can be downloaded at www.pamguard.org/plugins/plug... Next year we hope to release an AI classifier for the megafauna of Loch Ness
- Check out our new tutorial for the Batch Processing module in PAMGuard at www.pamguard.org/tutorials.html. The batch processor allows you to run the same PAMGuard configuration on multiple datasets, which is great for dealing with data from multiple autonomous recorders.
- PAMGuard Version 2.02.16 is now available for download. Updates include improvements to the Tethys database interface and the Deep Learning Classifier as well as several small bug fixes. Also available is an updated Batch Processing plugin and tutorial updates. Visit www.pamguard.org for details.
- We've had a great week teaching the latest PAMGuard features to folks in the US, but the week was marred by one of our attendees being fired half way through. Our hearts go out to her and other US Gov’t scientists losing their jobs this week, and we wish them success in finding new paths in life.

- @jamie-mac.bsky.social updated the home page of our website www.pamguard.org. Say if you like it!
- See our blogpost on tracking seals around a tidal turbine using the new multibeam sonar processing modules in PAMGuard: appliedecologistsblog.com/2025/02/06/s...
- This week, I've been working on upgrades to the Batch Processing plugin module, which will allow you to rerun tasks such as click classification on multiple datasets. Available soon at www.pamguard.org.
- Reposted by pamguard@nature.com is keen to find out how scientists are using @bsky.app and whether it has become their go-to social-media platform. Do you use Bluesky? Has it replaced Xitter? We want to hear from you. www.nature.com/articles/d41... #eXit
- Another paper using PAMGuard. For this one we developed a bespoke PAMGuard module to process multibeam sonar data in order to track seals around an operating tidal turbine. All code and built modules at www.pamguard.org. @jessmontabaranom.bsky.social @seamammalresearch.bsky.social
- And we've just passed 100 downloads of the latest release. Glad to see folks were busy over the festive period.
