- 48 hours in Edinburgh at #BIAPT2026 and the verdict is in: The center is not holding. Day 1 killed "Polite Politics." Day 2 killed the "Liberal Individual." From the ethics of "Rage Bait" to the structural injustice of owning a Goldendoodle, here is the dispatch from the edge of Political Theory 🧵
- 🌍 DAY 1: THE CLIMATE STATE Alyssa Battistoni warns we are trapped in "Conflict Management" with fossil capital—treating oil like legitimate property to be negotiated with. She invites us to read her new book: "Free Gifts: Capitalism and the Politics of Nature"
- 🕵️♂️ Meanwhile, the "Climate Katechon" panel asked the scary question: Does the State need authoritarian power to "withhold the apocalypse"? As they noted: "The ocean will not negotiate with us."

- The linguistic trajectory from "Brain Rot" (2024) to "Rage Bait" (2025) maps perfectly onto the degradation of political discourse. We have moved from the atrophy of critical thought (Brain Rot) to the weaponization of affect (Rage Bait).
- Our Critical Discourse Analysis suggests this is a defense mechanism: we use "irony" and "rage" to shield ourselves from the anxiety of actual governance.
- We are mapping the "Political Personality" of the distance learner. Do you prefer Ethics (The Vibe) or Rules (The Law)? Participate in the study here: 👉 forms.gle/3r1YS514J78Q... (Data Disclaimer: Anonymous submission. No withdrawal possible after submission due to anonymization protocol.)
- Our analysis suggests that for many, online argument is just "Ragebait" a psychological defense mechanism to treat politics as a spectator sport. We found that students want a "Customized Reality": a strict Strategist in government, but a lenient Social Worker on the streets.
- We are expanding the dataset. We want to know where you draw the line between "The Law" and "The Vibe." Participate in the Critical Discourse Analysis (Phase 2): 👉 forms.gle/bamuoSdSv4br...

- We are celebrating UK Parliament Week by giving you the compass to the system. #UKPW The OU has a free, open-access resource: "Introduction to Making Political and Social Change." Link at bottom of thread 👇🏼 It’s not a textbook; it’s a manual on how to force the government to listen to you. 🧵
- The course solves the "Jurisdiction Problem." Most activists waste energy lobbying the wrong people. Health & Education? Often Devolved (Holyrood/Senedd/Stormont). Foreign Policy? Westminster. Section 3 of this guide stops you from shouting at the wrong building.
- It also covers "Ergonomic Activism." How to create a petition that actually triggers a debate (100k signatures). How to use "Economic Activism" to pressure corporations. The mechanics of a Select Committee inquiry.
- You can audit the full 10-hour course for a certificate, or just keep the link handy for when you need to audit your local MP. Access the "Changemaker" guide here: www.open.edu/openlearn/so... #UKPoltics #PolSciSky #AcademicSky #EduSky #OpenUniversty #DistanceLearning #Democracy #OUPIPS
