- If you ask if allies will be there for the US, they already have. When 🇺🇸 came under a horrific terrorist attack on 9/11, NATO’s Article 5 was triggered for the 1st & only time. Tens of thousands of allied troops went to Afghanistan to fight, and many died, alongside Americans. Honour them.

- Threats regarding Greenland only damage America’s standing in the world, just as America - like Europe - needs friends & allies in this more dangerous world. The only people I see benefiting from this crisis are Putin & Xi. They must be ordering popcorn. www.wsj.com/world/in-tru...
- Reposted by Oana LungescuChina and Russia must be having a field day. They are the ones who benefit from divisions among Allies. If Greenland’s security is at risk, we can address this inside NATO. Tariffs risk making Europe and the United States poorer and undermine our shared prosperity. (1/2)
- “Continuing down this path is bad for America, bad for American businesses and bad for America’s allies.” Statement issued by @shaheen.senate.gov & Senator Thom Tillis on President Trump’s threat of tariffs over Greenland.

- Reposted by Oana LungescuWe should know by now not to respond to one of Trump’s weekend posts as a definitive statement of policy. The content is as outrageous as it is absurd. For that reason there will be strong pushback from markets, Congress, perhaps Supreme Court as well as European governments.

- History often rhymes as the year turns. Romanian dictator Ceaușescu was executed on Christmas Day 1989 just as Panamian dictator Noriega fled following the US invasion. - Reposted by Oana LungescuThe EU just decided to indefinitely immobilise Russian assets. This ensures that up to €210 billion in Russian funds stay on EU soil, unless Russia fully pays reparations to Ukraine for the damage it has caused. (1/2)

- This is the time for the EU to finally agree to use the 185 bn euro in frozen Russian assets to arm Ukraine. It’s the biggest card that Europeans hold. The time is now.

- The 1994 Budapest memorandum with security guarantees for Ukraine was blatantly breached by Russia twice. In 2014 with Crimea’s illegal annexation & in 2022 with the full-scale invasion of 🇺🇦 Nobody should trust a word of what Putin says in Budapest - he’s just playing for time.
