- Most of the Washington Post’s tech reporters were laid off today, including me. I have loved my time at the paper, which is where I wanted to work from age 15. I take some consolation in not being among the survivors who will have to work harder with less for fewer readers. On to better things.

- Russian oil and gas revenue was just 2.0% of GDP in January. If I'm not mistaken, that is a record low for the whole Putin era (since 2000). Here is the data since 2011.

- In a speech at KU Leuven today, former Italian prime minister and European Central Bank president Mario Draghi argues that the old economic world order is dead, and that Europe must "move from confederation to federation" to avoid decline and subservience. www.euronews.com/my-europe/20...

- Fun (if odd) to turn paintings into scenes I can walk around in using Genie 3 in one go: here are the works of Giorgio de Chirico, Munch, Turner, and the Bayeux Tapestry. I can move freely around the scenes, and, yes, they are a little weird, but its real-time dynamic image creation by the AI.

- Might be my personal bias, but the call for a 'Team Canada' approach, linked to external trade agreements and the aim for reducing internal trade barriers, sounds eerily similar tovon der Leyen's rhetoric of 'Team Europe', the EU's extension of free trade agreements and completing the single market.

- Worth pointing out though this isn't new. For decades foreign trade missions have often been dubbed 'team Canada' to mean multiple government departments or representatives from different sectors of the economy.

- Good thread by @lucasguttenberg.bsky.social on 'Coalitions of the Willing' in the EU 👇 I very much agree on principle But the exception is the domain of defence If the EU is to take on a more robust military role - esp. re Ukraine - then a Coalition of the Willing is key to moving things forward
- Agreed. One problem in the debate is also that everyone understands something different under coalition of the willing. For some it’s intergovernmental action outside EU, for others its enhanced cooperation etc using EU institutions. So everyone is advocating for it but with different things in mind

- #UN Secretary-General #AntonioGuterres has written a letter to member states warning of the UN's financial collapes unless rules that lead to a "kafkaesque cycle" of underspending are not changed quickly. My commentary including the full letter is on LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/posts/ronny-...
