another thing McBride points out is that historically successful civil rights movements were willing to compromise. which is very true! but we’re not being offered a trade, we’re just being told to cede ground.
i listened to the Ezra Klein/Sarah McBride interview, and her entire position revolves around a completely unproven assertion: the idea what caused the shift in polls away from trans rights is the rhetoric of the left. that might be true, but i haven’t seen any real evidence for it.
Jun 21, 2025 22:45if there was legislation that, e.g., failed to protect trans athletes while protecting trans rights in other respects, THEN you can try to have a conversation about compromise. but ceding the issue without getting anything in return isn’t compromise, you’re just losing.
