No More Freeways
We’re the grassroots community effort to stop ODOT’s polluting, costly, dumb freeway expansions.
Climate leaders don’t widen freeways ❌🛣️❌
- Helluva lineup for Tuesday's Joint Oversight on Transportation Committee meeting. Seems like a pertinent discussion as the legislature determines whether to continue to throw hundreds of millions to the Rose Quarter Freeway Expansion! #orleg #orpol olis.oregonlegislature.gov/liz/2026R1/C...
- @1000oregon.bsky.social has a nice call-to-action set up to support two ODOT reform bills up for consideration in this year's legislative session: us17.campaign-archive.com?e=841469aa1c...

- Obliquely funny how much the Portland Metro Chamber of commerce is celebrating the recent uptick in pedestrian traffic in downtown Portland while feigning indifference to the colossal forthcoming cuts in transit service and being gung-ho on billions for freeways
- Lee Beyer, legislative architect of the freeway-heavy HB 2017 and possibly the biggest evangelist of "just one more lane bro" in oregon politics, is sitting from his perch in the oregon transportation commission and openly questioning whether the interstate bridge can move forward. #orpol #orleg
- "If those numbers are correct, we can't build this project. There's no way you're going to get the money to do it at this point." - Lee Beyer, OTC vice-chair and former Oregon legislator bikeportland.org/2026/01/23/t...

- ODOT’s budget is fucked. They could either stop spending hundreds of millions on a doomed freeway expansion that is billions of dollars away from completion or raid the $15m a year program for sidewalks near elementary schools. Guess which Dems are choosing #orpol bikeportland.org/2026/01/22/l...
- "The new "abundance" agenda can deliver a wealth of equitable transportation options — but only if its proponents recognize how our glut of highways has contributed to the "scarcity" they say they hope to tackle, advocates are saying." - @usa.streetsblog.org usa.streetsblog.org/2026/01/20/w...

- Still no news from the Coast Guard, worth keeping an eye on, curious that they may be timing this announcement for a friday afternoon before a three day weekend news dump... Coast Guard demanding IBR forgo their existing design and build a lift bridge would change the trajectory of the project

- Sounds like the first official response from WSDOT after news broke that the IBR team was hiding cost escalations from the public and that the project now costs $15,000,000,000 is “so what” and “let’s just build it anyway” #walege
- “While construction costs are estimated to increase by 68%, the costs for consultants and staff are estimated to increase by 406%. You might call it the “consultant industrial complex.” #orpol #orleg pwlobby.com/up-up-and-aw...

- NEWS ALERT The Interstate Bridge Replacement team has known the cost of the project has doubled since August, but didn't tell legislators at September/December committee meetings The IBR now is projected to cost more than the entire pricetag of HB 2025, last year's statewide transportation package
- as if there hasn't been enough news today, stay tuned, a big story dropping shortly about that pesky little interstate bridge replacement....
- Notable that Oregon Transportation Commissioner Phil Chang is suggesting the legislators need to decide whether or not they want to keep pushing forward on the portland area megaprojects instead of backfilling ODOT maintenance needs in a hometown paper op-ed bendbulletin.com/2026/01/07/g... #orpol

- “At the end of the day, No More Freeways is a grassroots movement that believes Portland will be a healthier, happier, more prosperous, more equitable, and more livable city if we stop spending billions of dollars widening freeways.” - NMF co-founder @chrissmith.us www.nomorefreewayspdx.com/donate
- Thank you to the hundreds of Portlanders who have submitted public testimony against endless freeway expansion this year, and to the dozens of you who have supported us this year. We're close to our $30k fundraising goal to pay for lawyers for 2026 - join us! www.nomorefreewayspdx.com/donate
- In 2026, we're taking ODOT to court to stop the proposed, polluting Rose Quarter Freeway Expansion. But we can't do it without your help. We're halfway to our goal to pay for our legal work - can you join us? www.nomorefreewayspdx.com/donate
- “It’s rich to see Republicans suddenly discover that safe roads require money,” Rep. Travis Nelson, D-Portland. “The very lawmakers now urging ODOT to seek emergency funding were happy to support referring stable transportation funding to the ballot, putting road maintenance on ice for years.”

- "I don't think I'm expecting you to have a finite, perfect budget plan. But you can’t punt it down the road without giving us something... I want a date, and I want a report. Or else I would say that your team is not doing its work, to be blunt." - Rep Thuy Tran www.kgw.com/article/news...
- "Places where the highways work 'well' also have the worst economies — and to me, that's pretty telling; we've fundamentally gotten this wrong."
