in addition, when it comes to the former you're supporting an entire structure that allows every writer there to get paid and to thrive—to have access to editors, legal counsel, a sense of security. we can't individualize the whole profession (which is not a shot at the ppl making it work)
when i give wired dot com $40 i get access to so many journalists‘ work, when i give my favorite writer $40 i only get that one person’s work AND i can only do that for like one person a year. it sucks!!!!
