- Here's how I sort the follow-bots and ex-X trolls from actual sincere accounts: do they take the time to *alt-text* their images? If yes, they are likely a human who cares whether I can read them. If no, instablock.
- A friend in St. Paul posted this Paul Drooker image a few hours ago, so I know she's okay:
- Oh, dudes, I just had the nappiest story idea! The kind of idea that conspiracy theorists concoct to supposedly explain reality....And since I'm not sitting next to a writer on a plane at the moment, I invite all of you to dm me for the idea. You write it and we'll split the money in half.
- Feeling editor-y as I read this latest unpublished ms. But I want to maintain a light touch. Does age make me better at improving a text? Do I do it righter now? And if so, do I do it righter in all ways, or only in some ways? I wonder.
- Feeling very fortunate and cuddled in love rn as I don the cozy handknit shawl @weemallard.bsky.social made for me. Attached photo doesn't do its soft touch justice.
- Reportedly Melania's line was, "We need to unify in these times." Oh baby girl, we unifyin.

Greg will never say this, so I will — now is a great time to buy books from DreamHaven. Support Americans who stand up vs. 🧊. dreamhavenbooks.com

- Just went down to the corner construction site and told the dude in charge if anyone there ever needs to get away from ICE, here's my address. Promised solemnly to hit any wannabe kidnappers on the head. Must have sounded rich coming from some doddering 70-year-old hobbling around on walking sticks.

- Reposted by Nisi ShawlAnother friend put it to me like this: "ICE has made the classic Nazi mistake. They've invaded a winter people in the winter."
- Reposted by Nisi ShawlI have been actively involved in protest movements for 24 years. I have never seen anything approaching this scale. Minneapolis is not accepting what's happening here. ICE fucking murdered a woman for participating in this, and all that did is bring out more people, from more walks of life.

- Reposted by Nisi ShawlEvery time the Trump regime uses the words "funded protesters" and "outside agitators" news outlets need to cut to this photo from last week. ICE has invaded these communities. Outside agitators don't show up in their fucking bathrobes.

- Reposted by Nisi ShawlYay, the news is out: I'll be doing my first in-person event in North America in about 4 years (!), it's in Seattle, with the fantastic @kimberlylemming.bsky.social , organized by @clarionwest.bsky.social - AND it's a fancy tea party! I can't wait: www.clarionwest.org/event/steamy... #romancelandia
- Old person to youngs: If at a certain point in your life people from long in your past start reaching out to you, like calling and texting and emailing you even though you haven't had anything to do with them for years, ANSWER THEM. It may be their last chance to talk with you. They may know it.

- Ah, of course! The Minnesota equivalent of inflatable animal costumes and kneeling priests is ice! Pouring water in their invaders' paths so it freezes. Minnesotans have no problem with obvious punnery.
- Fondly recalling how we were forced to sing suggestive lyrics in our elementary school choir because "ding-dong" was our kiddish euphemism for dick. "It's the most wonderful time of the year (PENIS! PENIS!)" Is that still a thing?
- I love how homegrown our protest tactics are. In Portland inflatable animal costumes. In Chicago, kneeling priests. In the Twin Cities maybe we can defend ourselves with hotdishes?
- Reposted by Nisi ShawlUnions and community orgs are calling for a Minnesota-wide shutdown in 10 days to protest the ferocious assault by federal immigration agents. They're saying on Jan 23, no work, no school, no shopping. SEIU Local 26, UNITE HERE Local 17, & others are supporting, w/ more to join. By me, Amie Stager

- I swear to heaven I watched this "Shanghai-de-ho" number as a kid and I'm still unpacking the layers of nastiness it serves up to Blacks, East Asians, Hindus, Jews, womyns (Ethel Merman sings pretty much the whole thing, not Bing) and basically everybody. www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRx8...
- I wrote a story about subversive Black happiness and read it aloud publicly for the first time Wednesday. While doing important you-stuff play this recording of it. Put Eileen and Bob and me on in your background and listen and say "What? Did they--really get us here somehow?" youtu.be/gtnl_roThnc

- As an adolescent I held conversations in my head explaining to invisible ancestors what I was doing, where we were going, what I was seeing. Nice prep for writing SFFH. And now in my old age I'm holding convos in my head explaining things to my invisible descendants. Nice SFFH practice.
