- Your model has to track the world and account for its function. That’s the Beeb’s job. Not to bow to political opinion either in the studio or nationally. To track the reality and show its workings. To make the model available and update it as science and evidence dictate.
- And that’s where the Beeb seems to be falling down here. The available evidence is significant not really equivocal. To say the situation is “contested” is accurate but not fully truthful. bsky.app/profile/sund...
- The BBC coverage is absolutely terrible. It leads on "sharply contested narratives" It has a dramatic skew to the US government It has posted the video but has failed to report on what it shows: it shows the US govt account is untrue
- As with climate. As with immigration. As with Brexit. Yes, of course, XYZ denies the allegation; PQR rejects the IPCC report; MNO says there are far more migrants… Sure. But those actions are not weighty. They are breath without substance, reported into significance.
- And there’s the irony: in the attempt to avoid inserting itself into the argument, a news organisation which fails to distinguish empty statements from evidenced ones is doing exactly that. You cannot, in 2026, report passively and hope to be truthful. /ends
