- At long last, my new book, Speaking in Pictures, comes out this week as an ebook and in a few weeks for physical books! It's a 300+ page graphic novel about language, cognition, comics, and visual communication written and drawn entirely by me visuallanguagelab.com/sip
- Here's an interesting new paper that compares full page layout of comics vs. "guided view" on apps. It shows that less proficient comic readers get enhanced comprehension by "guided view" comic reading, but proficient readers prefer full-page layouts journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
- Really excited to finally see our chapter come out on "Iconicity in the visual lexicons of comics"! We describe how iconicity in graphics often involves far more conventionality than is often assumed Book chapter: academic.oup.com/edited-volum... OA preprint: visuallanguagelab.com/P/InPress.OH...

- An abstract and existential experience that's one of the best comics, while also incredibly hard to describe what it's about

- ICYMI, our recent paper explores "flow" in comics by theorizing how it works, and then detailing how it manifests in a corpus of 417 comics from around the world. I summarize our work in this post which links to the journal article www.visuallanguagelab.com/2025/12/goin...
- Comic creators often talk about "flow" through the composition of comics pages, but little work has actually studied it. So, our newest paper explores what flow is and how it works, which I’ve summarized in a more accessible way in this post: www.visuallanguagelab.com/2025/12/goin...

Reviews are free AND they are a gift to authors that can keep on giving (i.e., exposure, marketing, algo boosts, etc.) Please, give the gift of reviews to your authors this holiday season. It really can make a difference!
