- Reposted by muirneagReading through Sourav Roy and Tuhin Bhowal’s fine anthology of contemporary Hindi poetry, PERENNIAL, I was stopped cold by Seth Michelson’s razor-sharp translation of Rati Saxena’s devastating “Refugee”—a poem for our time, for all times. “…like kites holding tight / to the ruins…”
- Reposted by muirneagA very welcome defeat for the monstrous effort to treat Palestine solidarity as a major crime and stifle it in the process. Starmer's 'Labour' government deserves nothing but the deepest contempt and the utmost hostility. #PalestineAction
- (aka 'whatever it takes to get you through the morning') 🍰
- Cake and milk from the jug 😬😂 #oilpainting #art

- According to The Economist, the $ dollar has lost a tenth of its value in just one year. And spasms of panic, when investors flee from U.S. government bonds, stocks and the dollar around the same time, have occurred in seven of the past 52 weeks. How's that 'making it great again' working for you?
- No, you're not going crazy. The same 'experts' who tell us Scotland's too poor to be a real grown up country have been telling us inflation is *only* up about 2.3%. The food bill at the supermarket checkout begs to differ.
- I love this mashup of Minnesota's loon and Hunger Games' mockingjay.
- I decided to support Ukrainian soldiers by buying some of these embroidered fabric badges. They're made in a factory near the frontline that also supplies the soldiers. I confess I don't know what the writing says, I just liked these designs. 🇺🇦 💙💛
- Edinburgh by night
- Reposted by muirneagThat's what we like to see! ✊ 6 UK Palestine activists won their case despite the 'terrorism' bullshit
- Korean artist Jungsuk Lee creates dreamlike fantasy worlds, but I especially like his depictions of the universally captivating magic of snowfall.
- Reposted by muirneagFor the past 2 years, a widely debunked NYT article was used as propaganda by our government to justify its support of Israeli genocide in Gaza. A genocide that, despite a “ceasefire,” is ongoing.
- In conversation with novelist Lakshmi Murdeshwar Puri at Edinburgh's City Chambers for the launch of ##SwallowingTheSun
- It was so lovely meeting author and diplomat Lakshmi Murdeshwar Puri at the international launch of her novel ##SwallowingTheSun

- Guests of honour being piped in to City Chambers last night, for the launch of the international edition of Lakshmi Puri's novel 'Swallowing the Sun'. She explained that the title refers to a saying by a teenage girl saint, meaning everything is possible if you keep trying. #SwallowingTheSun
- Hands up if these are the type of traditional values you'd like to see taught ✋️✋🏻✋🏼✋🏽✋🏾✋🏿 🍄🟫🐦

- Nu Labour and their neoliberal ilk are dreadful. They've systematically undermined public wellbeing for decades. But switching to Reform's Farage is like fleeing the zombie apocalypse by jumping into a pit of sharks. Scotland can choose a different path. #independencenow
- George Monbiot points out that Peter Mandelson isn't some freak outlier. He was part and parcel of a system that values wealth and profits over people - whether that's workers or vulnerable children. 🤬 bsky.app/profile/geor...
- 1. In 2009 I wrote this. I argued that Peter Mandelson's department “functions as a fifth column within government, working for corporations to undermine democracy and the public interest.” This thread explains what I saw, and reaches a startling conclusion.🧵 www.monbiot.com/2009/05/04/m...
- Reposted by muirneagThe thing is, you didn't have to be Nostradamus to see it. You just had to be independent of the ultra-rich. Unfortunately, the great majority of the media is in the plutocrats' pockets. So the people pointing it out are shunned. In 2009 I tried and tried to get the BBC to pick this up. But ...⛔🤐

- An important thread. Mandelson was not some freak exception. He's part of a larger plan.

- We're in a whole heap of trouble if the British public don't stop believing far-right propaganda and wise up to the fact that Farage & Co.'s 'Reform' want to take away our health care. His millionaire class literally do not care how many people die from illness if it decreases govt. spending.
- Lakshmi Murdeshwar Puri mentioned what an honour it was to unveil the international edition of her book here, in the world's first UNESCO City of Literature. 🙂 I'm really looking forward to reading the novel, a story set against the backdrop of India's struggle for independence. #SwallowingTheSun
- I went to an absolutely fabulous book launch at City Chambers tonight! I had a chance to chat with the author, Lakshmi Murdeshwar Puri (who was so inspiring!) about her novel, a story set against the backdrop of India's struggle for independence. #SwallowingTheSun
- Choose a new and better path, Scotland!
- I'm seeing massive protests and rallies across Europe, from Denmark to London and beyond, condemning Trumpism and its vile policies, both foreign and domestic.
- A fabulous Indian classical dance show is coming to St Brides, Edinburgh folks!
- A message from Minneapolis in Ojibwe: Daga ayaangwaamizig: "take care of yourselves". 💗
- Here's something fascinating I just learned. The simple retro technology of a 70s lava lamp has become essential to this large-scale random encryption number generator!
- Wearing my new @bruachband.bsky.social gig T-shirt & badges 🙂
- The world is in desperate need of some joy and beauty right now and I can't help much, but here's a picture of my new boots. #TheColorPurple 💜
- Elle Cordova as usual hits all the nails on the head at once. www.instagram.com/reel/DUHKb4x...
- Limited edition CD of @bruachband.bsky.social gigs at Osaka Expo!
- After today's AGM, the Japan Society of Scotland enjoyed a really interesting talk and sideshow from @bruachband.bsky.social, the folk music group who represented Scotland at the Osaka Expo 2025 last summer. I was properly 'natsukashi' (homesick) for my former home town, especially for the food!
- @gomidesigns are fashioned entirely from recycled plastic, the colours mixed by hand so each one is unique. And powered by recycled e-bike batteries. ♻️ 💚
- Is it a power bank? Is it a work of art? Well, both, actually. My new ♻️ plastic Gomi has arrived (the name comes from the Japanese word for 'garbage). As William Morris said, "have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful". Or as I like to say, both. 🙂
