- Reposted by Money and Mental HealthWe've just published this report - it's well worth a look. Income maximisation is an issue that doesn't get nearly enough attention. We have a system that can, in principle, make a lot of money available to people who need it, money that can be vital - but it's too hard to access for way too many.
- 🚨 New research 🚨 Income maximisation services help people to access vital support to boost their incomes. They can be life-saving. But they’re overstretched, inconsistently available across the UK and can be poorly suited for people with complex needs – including mental health problems.
- Brands are still using ’Blue Monday’ to sell us stuff - from pizza to make-up, from doughnuts to cars for hire. 🍕🚗 There’s zero science behind ’Blue Monday’. Any day can be tough for any of us. And companies using our mental health as a way to open our wallets isn’t just distasteful - it’s wrong.
- Gambling with borrowed money creates a vicious cycle: borrowing to gamble, then gambling to repay borrowing. Here we share what people with lived experience say banks should do when they spot this – including preferred channels and communication tips. 🔗 www.moneyandmentalhealth.org/the-vicious-...
- We’re delighted that our Chief Executive @helenundy.bsky.social has been awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours List for her contribution to voluntary services, including leading Money and Mental Health for the past seven years. Congratulations to Helen from everyone at Money and Mental Health!
- The year is drawing to a close - and we want to say such a big thank you to everyone who’s supported us this year, particularly our Research Community members without whom none of our work would be possible! 💜 We want to wish you all a very special festive season.
- Huge thank you to Rob from our Research Community for sharing his experience on Money Box. He talks about how impulsive spending can spiral - and the practical steps he’s taken to manage it.
- As 2025 comes to a close, our CEO Helen Undy has reflected on a pivotal year of hard work and remarkable impact at Money and Mental Health. Here are a few of our highlights 🧵👇
- Today we’ve published new research as part of our Gambling Harms Action Lab. Our new policy paper calls on banks and building societies to use customer transaction data to identify and support customers who may be at risk of or experiencing gambling harms.
- Today the government has announced a review into the prevalence, trends and inequalities associated with mental health problems. The review must consider how the cost of living crisis and other economic factors have affected people’s mental health. 🔗 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
- 🎬 Our Chair and Founder @martinlewis.moneysavingexpert.com went on LBC to speak about our recent research on the reforms needed to allow people to get support from a loved one, carer or trusted friend with their finances. Here’s a snippet of what Martin said 👇

- Reports suggest the government may allow councils to raise council tax above the 5% cap without a public vote. We’re urging them to first end the brutal way that councils collect missed payments, to avoid more people falling into harm. Our response 👉 www.moneyandmentalhealth.org/press-releas...

- This is a policy win 🎉 We’ve long called on the Competition and Markets Authority to crack down on misleading ‘sale ending’ timers and other pressure-selling tactics. These tactics can drive people with poor mental health to spend more online than they can afford. 🔗 www.gov.uk/government/n...

- Congratulations to @francescasmith.bsky.social on your nomination for @smartthinking.bsky.social’s Researcher of the Year award! 🎉 Francesca has authored several of our recent reports on debt collection and reforming the Mental Health Act. So pleased to see her work recognised beyond the office!
- Delighted to host a roundtable discussion on financial inclusion in Parliament today. Our CEO @helenundy.bsky.social led a discussion chaired by @rachelblakemp.bsky.social about how we can ensure the government’s Financial Inclusion Strategy delivers for people with mental health problems.
- People with mental health problems are more likely to need support from a loved one with managing money. But accessing support can be difficult. Processes are often rigid or inaccessible - and can result in people taking risky workarounds, like sharing PINs or account details.
