- I have been writing letters of recommendation for just shy of thirty years— 17 students this year alone— in ratios that more or less track the majority-women population of liberal arts students. Obviously I have never commented on a student's looks... and no recipient has ever called me to ask.
- This is not "how men behave." This is Gelernter's version of Trump saying "locker room talk"— a projection of his own pathologies onto a whole gender in order to buff up his own manly-man credentials in his mind.

- The more I hear about 'Melania,' the more I think about @csittenfeld.bsky.social, who wrote fine books fictionalizing the lives of Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton, and I wonder how she'd go about writing a novel of this woman's life in a grasping, grifting, gross family of lies, excess, and abuse.
- Worth remembering that something did happen: the journalist who revealed this died from a car bomb.
- JUST IN: Democrats flip a red seat in the Texas Senate. Taylor Rehmet wins against Leigh Wambsganss, a conservative activist who helped lead right-wing efforts to take over TX school boards. With all early vote, and 95% of precincts, in, Dem up 57/43. Trump won this seat by 17% in Tarrant County.

- In Hayward, California, there is a historical landmark to one of the first Ukrainian immigrants to the U.S. who arrived in 1865. KQED just published a story on Agapius Honcharenko, you can read or listen to here. www.kqed.org/news/1207143...

- In my research, I discovered that Honcharenko was the first individual recorded in the US Census as born in Ukraine, in 1880. The Ukrainian diaspora has long been fascinated with him, and in 1999 his former homestead became a California landmark, furthering his recognition among the American public.

- The prevailing consensus over the last year was that anyone calling for a general strike was ridiculous and ignorant and it would never work here, and maybe that’s true nationally, I dunno, but I bet those people wouldn’t have seen tomorrow in MN coming either
