I never had the sense that Golden Wind was an especially popular JoJo's part until it got animated and now it seems like it's probably the most popular of them all.

it’s a golden (hehehe) example of what bad translation vs good translation can do for a series.
I always loved it from back when I was cosplaying Giorno in 2007… but I also speak more than one language and had access to it outside the godawful original English fan translation 🤪
the old scans literally make up dialogue and entirely change character personality. they were done from the Chinese edition by someone who doesn’t even really speak Chinese. My favorite bit is where they mistranslated “I have some Van Goghs and Gaugins” as “a similar portrait of a Buddhist valley”
you can’t appreciate an arc that’s about 75% character writing when you’re reading fan scans that are THAT atrocious………
afaik it was always popular in japan, but it's hard to shake the impression that the state of its scans limited its appeal for a long time over here
