- Maternal side: 3 brothers came over via 1 set of paperwork, namely travel papers telling the oldest brother to report for military duty. Instead he traveled to a port, hopped on to a ship to the US, sent the papers home to brother #2 who did the same, rinse repeat for brother #3 (pre-WWI Germany)
- Genuinely curious: If your family is American, what brought them here? Mine: Nothing brought them to America. America came to them. When the USA invaded, occupied, and claimed Puerto Rico, suddenly my family was in America. Eventually they were even provided citizenship. Both sides of the family.
- As the descendant of what would probably be illegal immigrants if the concept existed at the time, who am I to try to close borders or police my neighbors?
