Migrant Voice
We are a migrant-led national organisation empowering migrants to speak out, challenge perceptions and change public debate, in the media and to policymakers. Offices in London, Glasgow and Birmingham.
- It has been an absolute pleasure to team up with @care4calais.org today to provide training on public speaking. It is so important that migrants are able to ensure that our voices are heard, and listened to
- We're seeing a dramatic increase in immigration enforcement in the UK. While it may not have same attention as ICE raids in UK, it still sees families ripped apart and vulnerable people detained. Spain shows regularisation for undocumented migrants is a better option. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
- On 4th February Migrant Voice is hosting a meeting to address issues of hate crime in Glasgow. This meeting will be an opportunity to hear from the police and local authorities about their response to our recommendations on what they can support our communities. www.migrantvoice.org/whats-on/gla...
- We are delighted to be in Birmingham today organising two workshops together with the university of Westminster for refugees and asylum seekers to share their views on settling up a refugee archive.
- The government's "earned settlement consultation" into proposed changes for migrants wanting to settle in the UK ends on February 12th. Together with a number of other organisations, we have created some guidance for possible ways to complete the questions. 1/2 www.migrantvoice.org/img/upload/J...
- We already see the harm current settlement routes can cause individuals, including mental and physical health issues, destitution and separation from families. All issues liable to increase under the current proposals. Please complete the consultation if you are able. 2/2 www.gov.uk/government/c...
- Following the 2024 riots we held meetings across the country for people to talk about their experiences. The fear which marginalised communities faced was clear, as was the need for better understanding to tackle hate crime, which still does not exist. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
- With this government reportedly rethinking plans to introduce digital id to check for the right to work, through our work on this report we helped identify a number of issues with the existing digital immigration system, and the exclusion it creates. www.migrantvoice.org/resources/re...
- Continued hostile rhetoric, and policies, from politicians and in the media creates severe misconceptions surrounding immigration, which often overlook not just the facts surrounding it, but also the experiences of migrants. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
- 🚨Support Migrant Voice today and ensure diverse voices are heard🚨 Migrants are part of communities. We work and live alongside everyone. Together we help make the UK stronger. Even so our voices are ignored time and time again. 📣Donate today to help get us heard. www.gofundme.com/f/help-comba...

- This evening’s panel discussion is ‘Hope out of Hostility- shifting the narrative’ with speakers Mihnea Cuibus, Migration Observatory, Bekele Woyecha, Together with Refugees, Sara Shamsavari, artist and lecturer, Jennifer Ariowa Obaseki, Centre for Youths Integrated Development
- Dr Aanka Batta reads her poetry and Sylars inspires with a musical performance
- Performances continue at our International Migrants Day celebration together with Centre for Youths Integrated Development. Musical Performances by Ajidans, and Kaybams, which got everyone dancing and poetry reading by Teresa from Together in the UK and Jean-Marc Hall
- As part of our opening ceremony, we hear a performance by Kaybams - Kayode Bamgbose - African drumming, storytelling and singing to get the celebrations going.
- Migrant Voice Trustee 𝐑𝐚𝐟𝐚𝐞𝐥 dos Santos welcomes everyone to the event together with Migrant Voice Director Nazek Ramadan, and CYID Director Aihawu Victor who invites us all to celebrate. ‘This is our day. We are celebrating who we are, we are proud of who we are.’
- Tonight in Glasgow we celebrate #InternationalMigrantsDay & the finale of our 'Putting Ourselves in the Picture' project. We're launching a documentary about the project and we will hear speeches, music and have a multicultural ceilidh. Thank you to our funders the National Lottery Heritage Fund
- Marzanna, our Glasgow Network Coordinator, shared moments from the Putting Ourselves in the Picture project and all its achievements - thanking participants for all the stories and voices that are now part of the legacy of the project.
- We screen for the first time a documentary about the project, sharing the story of the discussions and exploration of our stories, the training, curation and community collaboration that led to the many heritage exhibitions launched during the project followed by speeches from Hope, Julita & Ali.
- Sofi Taylor, trustee of Migrant Voice and Anne Stoltenberg, Head of Development opened the event thanking our partners, Glasgow Museums, our funders, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, & all those who engaged with the project over the 3 years making it an incredible journey and strong community
- Much of the current debate surrounding immigration continues to be based on misinformation. As our trustee, @nandosigona.bsky.social and Laurence Lessard-Phillips show in this new report, people significantly overestimate the number of irregular migrants in the UK. i-claim.eu/project/publ...
- Today is #InternationalHumanRightsDay, and also the day when UK and EU leaders discuss weaken the rights of people fleeing war and persecution. If the European Convention on Human Rights is to be reformed, it must be to strengthen it, not undermine it. Read our statement for #Humanrightsday here 👇
- 🚨Donate today and help combat misinformation about migrants🚨 Hate and hostile policies are rooted in misinformation about migrants. If you can, please donate today to support Migrant Voice and help us continue to ensure migrants' voices and experiences are heard. www.gofundme.com/f/help-comba...
- Dislike the sound of plans for a digital ID roll-out? There are good reasons!! Immigrants in the UK are already subject to a digital ID system & it's been a mess since day one. Very important report here from brilliant Migrant Voice with @openrightsgroup.org explains the key issues 🤓👇
- You can read about the launch of the report on our website, along with a range of issues raised by speakers. Not only did we hear about way in which the digital immigration system excludes many migrants, we also heard how it can put abuse victims at further risk. www.migrantvoice.org/home/pagenew...
- Thank you Zoe
- We are thrilled to be launching our new report, Exclusion by Design: Digital Identification and the Hostile Environment for Migrants, with Derya Ozkul (University of Warwick) and Marie Godin (University of Leicester) and @openrightsgroup.org www.migrantvoice.org/img/upload/C...

- The shift to a "digital only immigration system" is already causing distress and exclusion for many migrants. Our work with the University of Warwick has shown significant issues with the system. We will be launching our report later today detailing the problems. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...
- You can read the full report, detailing how the digital immigration system leaves migrants excluded from society, blocked from working, denied the ability to rent, left in limbo and suffering increased stress and distress here👇 www.migrantvoice.org/resources/re...

- This is a very good explainer about the recently released government consultation into changes to settlement by our colleagues at @praxisprojects.bsky.social and @gmiau.bsky.social
- Last week the Government announced changes to settlement, turning the lives of millions of people upside down. Here's what we know so far 👉 www.praxis.org.uk/news/explain... Created with @gmiau.bsky.social
- Successive governments have treated international students as an easy target. Whether unjustly stripping them of the right to study, increasing costs for them, preventing them from being with loved ones etc. This is yet more hostility wrapped up as policy. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
- "The guidance was offered as an attempt to dispel misinformation … In practice it has had the opposite effect, becoming a catalyst for crime reporting reminiscent of the 1970s and 1980s – reviving a focus on race and migration status." www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...
- 🚨Join us on December 5th for the launch of this new report, ‘Exclusion by Design: Digital Identification and the Hostile Environment for Migrants.’ into impact of e-visas and digitalisation of status on migrants, led by Derya Ozkul (University of Warwick) and Marie Godin (University of Leicester).
- Funded by ESRC Digital Good Network, this is the culmination of more than a year's work, analysing the impact of the digitalisation of status on migrants. For more information and to express interest in attending the launch please email info@migrantvoice.org
- We already see the devastating impact of 20 year routes on individuals. They need scrapping, not more people forced onto them. Any of us can find ourselves needing help at some stage. Pushing people into more debt and misery because they do is unjust and discriminatory. www.bbc.com/news/article...
- The most recent attack on the rights and dignity of those who have come to this country seeking asylum are not isolated. They form part of a wider, and dangerous, cycle of hostility and abuse against migrants. Read our response to these attacks here👇 www.migrantvoice.org/home/editori...
- Please share with your MP. Anti-asylum and anti-immigration policies don't unify us, they divide us. They harm the very communities which MPs work to support and champion. We are calling upon everyone to stand with those affected, and oppose policies which dehumanise us.
- This government's anti-asylum policies are inhumane, dehumanising and dangerous. Its announced proposals today put already vulnerable individuals at increased risk of mental and physical harm, along with exploitation. www.theguardian.com/politics/liv...
- We must stop the hostility towards, and demonisation of, people just trying to seek safety. Our statement on just some of the Home Secretary's proposed changes to the asylum system
- A key point about "volunteering" is that it should be "voluntary". By forcing migrants to volunteer this government not only treats us as if we are a free resource, but also ignores everything else we go through. This policy is dehumanising and exploitative. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...
- When we published our report "No Rest No Security" into Home Office run hotels we found similar issues with the conditions. That was more than two years ago and @ramfel.bsky.social show the situation hasn't improved. People seeking asylum need to be treated better www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...
- The extortionate costs of visas, sometimes about ten times the actual processing costs, leave families ripped apart. While feeling waivers exist, they can be far too hard to access for many. We need a system which treats migrants with respect, not as magic money trees. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
