- Reposted by Michelle CycaFair bit of a scene at the OneBC event at UBC and the counterevent organized by students. Close to a thousand people here, mostly drowning out OneBC supporters. Some pushing and shoving, nothing escalating past that yet it seems.
- an "integrity issue" that will take 3 years to fix has resulted in LNG Canada burning 15 times as much gas as expected and has had a "noticeable impact on the community" — but no penalties yet from the energy regulator. killer investigation by @laurenwatsonjourno.bsky.social & @writermjs.bsky.social
- LNG Canada has known there was an issue with its flaring equipment for over a year. While locals raised concerns about noise, smoke and emissions, until now, they didn’t have answers. The Narwhal reviewed more than 2,000 pages of documents for this story: thenarwhal.ca/lng-canada-f... #bcpoli

- Last December, 82 pedestrians were struck in Vancouver; six people died by car over a three day period this week. There are plenty of proven ways to reduce the risk of injury and death from cars — here's hoping Vancouver takes just one of them!!

- if you worry about the decline of media, the rise in AI slop and the rampant misinformation circulating online — one small but meaningful way to do something about it is to support @thenarwhal.ca in reporting factual, original, investigative stories. plus you get a toque & a hand-written note!
- when you hear city councillors like @lisadominato.bsky.social say that this budget reduces the financial pressure on seniors, people with disabilities, and families — remember all of those people can defer their property taxes indefinitely. this is a bad argument I hear too often.
- approved despite over 600 speakers signing up to speak to the budget, with all but a tiny number strongly opposed, and following a public engagement survey that found the majority of respondents supported a property tax increase to avoid cuts.

- Reposted by Michelle CycaMassive shoutout out to whoever handles the Royal Canadian Air Force’s social media account. They responded to every single comment on their already very solid Trans Day of Remembrance post and they responded like this…
- without evidence, the federal government says a law that prohibits fossil fuel companies from lying about the environmental impacts of their products is “creating investment uncertainty”
- was on the radio today responding to @petermeiszner.bsky.social's explanation for why the city is removing 5% of change tables in civic spaces. the TL;DR is even parents & babies in "highly vandalized areas" deserve essential facilities. listen here: open.spotify.com/episode/7eot...
- two other quick points: 1) if people are setting plastic change tables on fire, perhaps replace them with metal ones. 2) $28,000 per year in repairs is around 0.05% of the $50 million annual budget increase requested by the VPD, and more cops will not address the root causes of vandalism

- that a scammer was able to publish so many fabricated stories in publications that still have prestige but — evidently — minimal editorial oversight & no fact-checking reveals how badly media is being hollowed out. bleak to consider how often this is probably happening without anyone noticing!
