they've spent their entire lives deluding themselves into the belief that police violence is a result of individual actions/failures (both on the side of the victim and the perpetrator) as opposed to any systemic issues
abolition pushes them to acknowledge systemic failure & their own complicity
Question for the crowd:
Why do you think moderates, liberals, and other folks are scared or have an aversion to the word “abolish”?
they also really love cops 🥴
so much so that their identity is wrapped up in the preservation of policing as an institution
the venn diagram that is whiteness, white supremacy, and policing is actually one big circle
I say all this to say, I won't take any politician seriously if they can't even call for the abolition of ICE *and* the police
with everything going on right now, the Overton window is in prime position for us to push for real, substantial change
anyone expecting us to settle for less (the calls for more training, more funding, or any other reform tactic) is simply not on our side
