Basically, I think the commercial and clinical applications will only come if we have models that can "translate" between different brains for us.
But, I'm under no illusions that understanding magically emerges at scale.
100% in agreement.
Though I'd take a small bolder step and say there's a non-zero value for understanding too. If a big model shows that a thing is possible, we now have places to look (and potentially phenomena to explain) that helps progress towards insight/understanding long-term.
