Matthew Stiegler
Appellate lawyer, president of Third Circuit Bar Association, former prosecutor, fellow of American Academy of Appellate Lawyers. Boring until fascism.
Views here: just mine.
- “We have created a monster rampaging through the heart of our democracy and are trying to define and restrict which cities it can pillage and how many civilians it can eat. The problem isn’t the restrictions on the Frankensteinian monster … the problem is the monster.”
- Congress has a real chance right now to influence and change the trajectory of immigration enforcement in the US and arrest the use of ICE and CBP as a fascist secret presidential interior police. Here's my research on what would make a difference: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/six-ways-t...
- Registration just went live for the next Third Circuit conference! May 6-8 in Hershey, Pa. web.cvent.com/event/335665...
- My boring opinion: circuit conferences are good.
- The first circuit conference I attended, back in 2014, was also in Hershey. I went there not knowing a soul, I’d just started my CA3 blog, and it was awesome.
- “He repeated unfounded claims about the 2020 election, listing Detroit, Philadelphia, and Atlanta after raising what he alleged to be ‘rigged, crooked elections.’” No. abcnews.go.com/Politics/tru...
- The new issue of the Third Circuit Bar Association’s newsletter just posted online. It includes profiles of the Court’s 2 new judges, write-ups of notable recent cases, and my president’s note on threats against judges. Check it out here: www.thirdcircuitbar.org/publications
- If you’re a 3CBA member, you already received it a few days ago in your inbox. Well done. If you’re not a member, you can join or just find out more here: www.thirdcircuitbar.org/membership
- I’m aware that “bar association newsletter” sounds boring as all get out. But if you’re a lawyer who practices in the Third Circuit I promise you will find something useful. Perhaps even interesting. If you’re not, then, yes, probably dulls-ville.

View full threadBig thanks to everyone who wrote a piece for this issue, and to Ted Hages and Michael McCune for editing it. And if you’re interested in writing a piece for a future newsletter issue, just DM or email me.
- How long before they go after AOC stats people? www.uscourts.gov/data-news/ju...
- (That’s probably a confusing post, sorry. Here “AOC” refers to Administrative Office of the Courts, the admin arm of the federal judiciary. Not @aoc.bsky.social.)
- This is beyond unusual. newjerseyglobe.com/judiciary/jo...
- Already, nobody’s the least surprised to see these people soliciting AUSA applicants who “support President Trump.”
