Sue. Keep the pressure on your bosses. Do the same for trans and immigrant rights, public health, and more. Solidarity forever.

- Reposted by Maggie SoginYES! These NIH cuts to training grants are especially harmful at lower research active universities. SJSU had our U-RISE program (which we've had since 1988) cut, leaving students w 4 days notice of no stipend and cutting off an important way to get the research experience needed for PhD programs.
- Two undergrads in my lab were URISE scholars. One is graduating, but the other was counting on the funds to support her tuition next year (as well as a paycheck). Accepting any recommendations for fellowships she can apply for. She is hispanic if that helps and interested in viral ecology.
- Folks, while much of the attention is on Harvard and Columbia's response to the Trump/Musk/RFK Jr. administration, I'd like to point out how #NIH terminations and funding cuts go far beyond this war with the nations' elite universities. 🧵🧪
- Bitter sweet emotions for the two current and one former trainees in my lab who received honorable mentions this year...
- The NSF's flagship fellowship program typically gives offers to 2,000+ young scientists. This year, in the face of looming budget cuts, that number was halved: only 1,000 received an offer. Our story on what that means for the science talent pipeline: www.nature.com/articles/d41...
- Reposted by Maggie Sogin🧪 NSF GRFP update! New graduate NSF fellowships will likely be announced this week for the GRFP (see bottom of 🧵 for why). First off, I'm *very* glad to hear of those going forward, given the otherwise bleak year so far for graduate training. Some observations... 1/12

- 🙋♀️ We have an NSF award for a new mass spec ❤️ but the funds can’t be delivered until FY25… which is contingent on congress passing a spending bill. Anyone else gone through this? - We chatted about how to figure out WHAT you need to do to get that career, identifying and contacting mentors with expertise in that field, and even identified some CONCRETE actions they could take today to set them up for success.
