Dr Luka Vucinic
Hydrogeologist & Environmental Engineer. Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Environmental Management at Glasgow Caledonian University (based at GCU London). Loves karst.
- I’m very pleased to share a new preprint led by my former MSc student Ibrahim Masud. This manuscript has been submitted to UCL Open Environment and is currently undergoing peer review. You can find it here: doi.org/10.14324/ucl... We welcome comments and feedback during the peer review process.
- Attempting to match the coolness of the outcrop behind me. #geology @ Budva, Montenegro
- Salt dilution flow measurement :)
- I’m delighted to be working with colleagues and a former student from Sri Lanka on karst aquifers in the Jaffna Peninsula, which are vital for development yet increasingly threatened by saltwater intrusion and anthropogenic pressures. Photo: Nilavarai Well, exposing a limestone cavern.
- The IAH December 2025 newsletter is now live and includes information on the activities of the EDIA Working Group, as well as our plans for 2026. Please feel free to get in touch if you would like to get involved and contribute. You can find the full newsletter here: iah.org/wp-content/u...
- A field visit to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with my MSc Environmental Management students today.
- Excited to be joining the editorial board of CIWEM’s Water and Environment Journal!

- Our paper "AI-Based Prediction of Total Dissolved Solids in Reverse Osmosis Desalination for Arid Regions" has been accepted and is now available online (as a pre-proof) in Desalination and Water Treatment journal. Link: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
- Our paper on AI-based prediction of total dissolved solids in RO desalination for arid regions has been accepted! A fantastic collaboration with colleagues from Algeria, Italy, Jordan, and us from the UK. Friday just got better! 🥳

- Seaside moments with my family… 🏖️☀️🌊
- We would like to inform you that the latest issue of Acta Carsologica (54-1), the leading journal in karstology, is now available at: 🔗 ojs.zrc-sazu.si/carsologica/... Please feel free to help us spread the word! #Karst #Karstology #Hydrogeology #ActaCarsologica #IAHKC #KarstResearch

- A warm welcome to Dr Rachid Zegait, Associate Professor at Kasdi Merbah University Ouargla in southern Algeria, who is visiting us at GCU London. Over the next two weeks, he will be working with Dr Fatima Ajia and me on several research projects. I'm looking forward to what we will develop together.

- 📌 Hartland Quay, Devon, England The cliffs at Hartland Quay (on the Atlantic Coast of Devon) display a spectacularly folded sequence of alternating grey shales and sandstones known as the Crackington Formation that was deposited in the Carboniferous period approximately 320 million years ago.
- Sundays like this should be bottled and saved for Monday.
- A massive THANK YOU to Kay and Matthew for publishing Volume 10 of the Journal of Imaginary Research and my short fictional research abstract "Hydrogeological insights into Tatooine’s groundwater systems" (pp. 66–67). Writing this was an absolute joy and I can't wait to read the other contributions!

- It’s a small gesture, but in light of Trump’s tariff attack on Canada, I’ll be buying some Canadian products here in the UK. Kicking off with this maple syrup. Stay strong, Canada! 🇨🇦

We're trying our best, but things will take longer right now. Give grace.
- Nothing like wrapping up the week with the news of a successful research funding proposal! 🥳

- Yes.
- I lived in the US for a while when I was quite young, and even then it was obvious that Europe is a much better place to live. Worker rights, healthcare, education… the laws here actually protect people. If you are suddenly without a job because of Trump & Musk, consider Europe. We will welcome you.

- Reposted by Dr Luka VucinicThe main DEI page from @agu.org has been modified to take diversity out of the title. Glad to see it's not deleted entirely, but hey AGU, we're watching what you do and remembering the big game you once talked about supporting your diverse membership. Today vs. January
- The ACS has deleted its website on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Respect. And with that move, have shown they are worthy of none of the latter. People ask why no-one stands up to fascists, this is why - they are too worried about their own standing to challenge it. www.acs.org/about/divers...
- AGU's removal of DIVERSITY from DEI page (before backtracking under pressure) showed me why I won’t support this organisation or publish in its journals again. In the darkest times, standing up for what's right & integrity matters most! You caved to Trump & let down colleagues when they needed you.

- Reposted by Dr Luka VucinicThe Young Hydrologic Society is on Bluesky now!✨ We, like many other scientific societies, decided to join the Bluesky platform. The scope of this account will be the same as before: We'll post updates on conferences, workshops, seminars, webinars, vacancies, etc. Follow us for updates! Cheers!
- This is a kind reminder that we invited you to review a paper that is not related to your expertise two hours ago.
- Reposted by Dr Luka Vuciniclmao no, TikTok users are not moving to Bluesky. They would literally rather learn Mandarin than learn how to read a feed of text posts. This is a millennial retirement home.
- Rtanj is a #karst mountain in eastern Serbia (Serbian Carpathians) and is easily recognised by its sharp, pyramid-like peak (Šiljak). An interesting fact is that Rtanj has been surrounded by stories of hidden treasures and supernatural legends for centuries (don't even get me started on those).
- The Hydrogeological Group of the Geological Society of London is organising "The Karst and the Curious" Conference on 27th February 2025 at Burlington House in London (with an online option). Link for registration and more information: www.hydrogroup.org.uk/the-karst-an... See programme below:
