Luke Charters MP
Labour Member of Parliament for York Outer 🌹Proud Dad & Yorkshireman🫖
- Reposted by Luke Charters MP@lukecharters.bsky.social mentions Best for Britain’s research during PMQs 🚨 “An EU agrifood deal would boost exports and cut supermarket prices. The CBI backs it, and according to Best for Britain’s polling, 62% of the public do too."
- Reform’s been mysteriously quiet about their DOGE work recently. Maybe it’s because they’ve spent: 🅿️ £600k on free councillor parking in Kent 💷 £1.4m on “cost-cutting” consultants in Leicestershire 🏢 £5,000/day on empty offices in Worcestershire So much for “efficiency”. 🤡
- Reform have no answers. Ask them how they’ll rebuild the NHS. Ask them how they’ll lower bills. Ask them how they’ll build homes. You’ll only hear slogans, blame, and outrage, because they have nothing else. They are simply: Turquoise Tories.
- Farage just called Reform “UKIP”. Says it all.
- Mayor David Skaith and I have been working really closely together to push for vital transport links in our region, and this week the Transport Secretary popped up to York to formally sign the NPR compact. Great to catch up with David following this exciting moment for both York, and Yorkshire!
- The expansion of 30 hours of funded childcare is a game-changing step forward for families 👶✨ However the funded hours kick in the term after the child turns 9 months old. This means some children may be even 13 months old before they get their funded hours, which I highlighted in Parliament 🌟📣
- Food inflation skyrocketed after the Tories & Reform’s botched Brexit. 😐 So I’m campaigning to bring prices down and cut the cost of living, starting with a UK favourite: the meal deal. 🥪 It’s time to give something back to the grafters out getting their lunch. ✅
- 🚆If we had a £1 for every press release under the Conservatives about rail in the North, maybe we could have actually delivered new stations…🤔 Whether it’s journeys from Leeds to Shef, Bradford to Huddersfield, or York to Manchester - hear why I think NPR is a huge game-changer for the North 💪🏽
- A rail revolution is happening in the North! 💪🚆 After years of Tory decline, and with Reform now threatening to scrap it, Labour is delivering Northern Powerhouse Rail and renewed optimism for our region that has been overlooked for too long. ✅🌹
- Jenrick’s managed the rare feat of becoming so unwanted that even Farage would look desperate taking him on. Looking forward to his video on this one. Lol.
- The student loan misselling scandal? Labour inherited a student loan system designed by the Tories that can only be described as “Frankenstein’s monster”. I raised Plan 2 loans in Parliament, for the millions of graduates fed up of paying the price of a poor Tory era policy.
- A pleasure to visit Bishopthorpe Cricket Club! Just two years on from the brink of closure, this historic club is now thriving thanks to the dedication of its volunteers and players. A brilliant York success story. 🏏
- This is why I do this job. Loved celebrating the return of the Number 15 bus I’ve been pushing for with constituents from Bishopthorpe & Woodthorpe. Restoring services like this helps people get to work, see loved ones & stay connected. Huge thanks to East Yorkshire Buses & local councillors too!
- Great to be over at Middlethorpe Hall, a stunning National Trust property & hotel, led by the inspiring Lionel. His warmth, dedication & passion for hospitality is remarkable. Loved seeing his team in action and hearing about all the wonderful work he does in the community, too!
- Stopped by for a quick pint of Mittel Pilsner at Brew York, brewed just down the road in Elvington!🍻 Hard to beat...
- Great to catch up with Age UK York at the York City match ⚽ Their Match Buddies scheme is doing such good work, helping older people who might otherwise miss out on matchdays to enjoy the game in good company. A really positive initiative making a genuine difference to many people across York 👏
- We all know we need more affordable housing in York 🏘️ So it was great to visit Bramble Wood in Wheldrake and see the JRHT houses ready for residents to move into!🌳 Brilliant to see JRHT and Barratt Homes working together to deliver homes like these – making a real difference for families.
- Popped into Baker Street to pick up a Christmas Lunch panini🎄🥪 Great food as always, and the staff are so friendly and welcoming - always nice to stop and have a quick chat. A really good way to finish my last constituency visits of the year!
- Popped into the Greengales Court Christmas Street Party in Wheldrake last week!🎄 It was wonderful to see neighbours coming together to enjoy to support the charity Unique - who raise awareness of rare chromosomes and gene disorders and provide support networks for families.❤️

- Big news, Bish!🚌 From 25 January to Easter, Sunday buses are BACK with Service 15 - Woodthorpe → Bishopthorpe → Bishopthorpe Road → York. I’ve been pushing hard to secure a Sunday service for Bish and I’m really pleased that East Yorkshire Buses have worked with me to make this trial happen!
- Really glad to drop into the Show Racism the Red Card event in Parliament! It was fantastic to hear about the work they’re doing to tackle racism through education. From Arsenal to York City, the message is the same - these conversations matter, and they need to keep happening.⚽️

- Delighted by today’s Visitor Levy news, a truly game-changing step for York. It was good to join Rachel Reeves at No. 11 last night to talk about the Budget. I’ve long believed that by introducing a targeted Visitor Levy, we could raise tens of millions for our region 💷.
- Always great to be at the LNER on a Saturday, cheering on another win for the Minstermen! 🔴🔵 This weekend though, I wanted to highlight an issue we all know too well. I’ve written to the EFL in support of #3UP & I’ll keep campaigning for it. 💪 Here’s hoping we won’t even need it this season! ⚽
- Four games in a row scoring four & fourth in the league! Fantastic result and a one step closer to the top. A great day for us and also to mark #3UP. Now let’s get out of this league!
- Great day in the North! 🌱🚀 Proud to join Minister Chris McDonald, Lola McEvoy MP and Mayor David Skaith for the launch of the Bio-Industrial Cluster North — set to create 5,000 high-quality green jobs and power a cleaner, more innovative future for our region.💚🌍
- They say dogs are a man's best friend, yet they are still used in experiments despite tech advances.🐕 Sadly animal testing laws haven't changed in almost 40 years. Labour is launching a bold plan to accelerate progress. A kinder, more compassionate Britain is within reach. 🇬🇧

- 🥸No better way to kick off a busy day than with a 5k run alongside colleagues - great chats, and all for an important cause. Proud to support Movember and raise awareness for men’s physical and mental health!🙌
