- Forest inventory underway at our continuous cover forestry site, aimed at characterizing stand structure, growth dynamics and management outcomes. A key challenge involves quantifying natural regeneration by counting seedlings and saplings @beccsweden.bsky.social @lund-university.bsky.social
- Anna has spent a few days taking soil and root samples down to 2 m depth in our perennial wheat field. Hard work but she's has good help from Jonas and Ryan from SITES Lönnstorp... and from the Wintex soil corer #Kernza @lunduniversity.bsky.social @beccsweden.bsky.social @crews-tim.bsky.social

- Today it was time for the second annual harvest of our perennial wheat #kernza. Perfect harvest weather and it seems like both grain and straw yield will be significantly higher than the first year. @lundsuniversitet.bsky.social @beccsweden.bsky.social @crews-tim.bsky.social
- Exciting new paper with LU Fluxes involvement out now: "Assimilating multi-site eddy-covariance data to calibrate the wetland CH4 emission module in a terrestrial ecosystem model" bg.copernicus.org/articles/22/...
- Soon time for harvest at our #Kernza site in Alnarp,Southern Sweden. Exited to analyze 2 years of perennial crop EC flux measurements & compare the C balance to conventional crops (1 year rape seed & 1 year winter wheat). @lundsuniversitet.bsky.social @fluxnet.bsky.social @crews-tim.bsky.social
- Flux tower maintenance at our agricultural site today. Tobias and Peter adjusted the flux system height following harvest of the winter wheat, cleaned all sensors and cameras etc. @crews-tim.bsky.social
- Stig is doing N2O flux measurements in a ley experiment at the SITES Lönnstorp station. Challenging task in this variable weather...

- First round of N2O flux measurements from ley (and more crops/treatments) in our new project is underway.

- Maintenance in full swing at the Dahra site, with Osman and Tobias as tower crew and Aleksander on the ground. Check and cleaning of the EC gas analyzer done and filters in the profile system swapped. So far all went smoothly.
- While a heatwave is pounding Europe some of us got away to enjoy surprisingly slightly cooler weather in Senegal. 31 C only but very humid since it's the beginning of the rain season. Still pretty dry and bare in the the footprint of the Dahra EC tower though.
- We managed to pick the hottest day of the year for installations of collars for N2O chamber measurements in agricultural trials at SITES Lönnstorp. Still relative cool compared to southern Europe these days...
- Read about Blessing Kavhu's enriching experience during his Fluxnet Secondment with us at LU Fluxes in Lund! Blessing's time with us was brief, but his impact was profound. We're grateful for the lasting impression he left on our team. Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors, Blessing!
- Exiting visit from @crews-tim.bsky.social at our perennial crop site today. Tim is chef scientist at The Land Institute in Kansas and an expert on the perennial wheatgrass IWG (Kernza) we're growing in cooperation with TLI. The IWG seems to be growing well this year, already up to 1.5 m tall

- Great workshop celebrating ICOS Sweden in Lund today! - 30 years of measurements in Norunda - 15 years of ICOS Sweden national network - 10 years of measurements in Hyltemossa - 10 years of ICOS Carbon Portal
- Field visits in Lönnstorp and Alnarp by the Lund University "perennial club" (researchers with ongoing projects on perenial crops) today, followed by a workshop at SLU Alnarp. Quite interesting day. Veronika is describing her PhD project on perennial wheat in the pictures below
- Busy day at the agricultural site today: CO2/CH4 chamber measurements and LAI measurements on both annual and perennial crops, and manual augering of groundwater wells. The wells will help us keep better track of the groundwater level and nutrient leaching and be the basis for hydrological modelling
- Veronika's EGU presentation about carbon uptake in perennial and annual crops was well visited, and with lots of interesting discussions
- New interesting paper with LU Fluxes involvement out now: bg.copernicus.org/articles/22/... Well done Daniel!
- Blessing's making the most out of his Fluxnet secondment here in Lund. Here on his way to do CO2 and CH4 flux measurements (from the soil in both annual and perennial grain crops) together with MSc student Rasmus
- Inspektion of our Kernza (perennial wheat) field today with co-workers from the agricultural university SLU. Also some minor maintenance of one of the EC flux stations and planning for some new measurements.
- Our new Erasmus+ interns Mael, Loic and Yoann spent the day out in Hyltemossa installing soil collars and testing new automated chambers for CO2 and CH4 flux measurements.
- Dr. Blessing Kavhu is making the most out of his Fluxnet Secondment here in Lund; visiting both our forest EC stations and agricultural EC stations and participates in drone flights and gas analyzer calibration etc.
- LU Fluxes are very happy to host Dr. Blessing Kahvu for the coming 5-6 weeks through the Fluxnet Secondment program. Blessing is a postdoc at the University of California, Santa Cruz. During his stay in Lund, he will be working on integrating Remote Sensing data with eddy covariance measurements.
- Preparations and planning for installations of ground water tubes, lysimeters etc. for water balance and nutrient leaching in perennial crops and conventional crop rotation. A wet, grey and cold, but rewarding, day
- First field trial of our Wintex soil sampler were very successful today. Now we can easily sample soil down to 2 m depth in our perennial wheat field.
- This hard working crew has installed new solar panels and batteries, replaced a faulty data logger, resumed the flux-gradient measurements, serviced and calibrated the EC system, done manual soil flux measurements etc. Not bad for a few days of work in scorching heat at the Senegalese savannah.
- The CO2, CH4 and N2O flux-gradient measurements are now up and running again, alongside the normal EC measurements, at the semi-arid savannah in Senegal. The hard work by Aleksander and Peter paid off. Stay tued for interesting results 😃
- The hard work at the hot savannah in Senegal continues. Master student Sophie does soil flux measurements (CO2, CH4, N2O) while Peter continues fixing the power supply issue.
- Aleksander and Peter has now arrived to Dahra, Senegal, and has started working on restoring power for our flux-gradient measurements of CH4 and N2O. Stay tuned for updates 😃
- Tobias and Jonas are unboxing our new Wintex soil sampler that'll allow us to sample soil down to two meters depth and keep track of soil C and N changes. We'll primarily use it at our agricultural fields with perennial wheat #Kernza vs rotation of annual crops. Very exciting!
