I see people panicking about Crockett winning the primary , and...like, we just literally do not have the ability to say for certain that Talarico would do better in a general election. there's huge uncertainty and the default assumption that moderates do better is based on not much. 1
basically yglesias, jain, jentleson, WelcomePAC donors etc all base their prescriptions for Dems on a statistical model that nobody can replicate, and refuse to acknowledge (a) that uncertainty dwarfs the detectable effect of moderation & (b) that the last year has proved their views wrong!!
Talarico isn't a moderate lol
Feb 6, 2026 00:02What’s not moderate about his positions?
He's a progressive populist. Why would you think he's a moderate?
I like Talarico!
I think in discussions of the race, he's mostly being presented as the more moderate candidate. though I'm not sure he really is in terms of policies.
I think that he is being presented that way, sort of, but maybe that's also a perception because people aren't really familiar with Texas populism. I've been following his career for many years, and I've done a few podcasts with him; he's a Texas brand of progressive populist.
